Director of Rowing Job at Iona University
Position Summary
Iona University, an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Director of Rowing. This is a full-time, 12-month position and reports to the Director of Athletics. The Director of Rowing will oversee and provide direction for Iona’s varsity men’s and women’s rowing teams. The Director of Rowing will be responsible for developing, promoting and supervising all facets of the University’s Rowing program. This position will oversee the academic excellence of all student-athletes that are involved with the program, manage fundraising efforts, and provide a foundation, vision and leadership for Rowing at Iona.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert in the area of collegiate rowing. Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the men’s and women’s rowing programs. Establish and communicate a vision for the program. Plan, prepare, and execute practice and competition plans, strategies, and alternatives, in conjunction with head rowing coaches, which are designed to bring success to the programs.
- Design a competition schedule that maximizes athlete development and performances. Relate in a positive and effective manner with officials, opponents, parents, media, and the public.
- A primary function of this position will be the recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes. The Director of Rowing will work with the Rowing head coaches in recruiting quality student athletes capable of pursuing the baccalaureate degree in accordance with the rules and regulations of the governing bodies and in such a manner that reflects the best interests of the program and the University.
- Implement strategies to enhance student-athlete retention with the Rowing program. Develop relationships with campus partners to promote participation in the Rowing program.
- Participate in the formulation of budget and ensure that the program operates within the approved budgetary parameters. Work in coordination with the Deputy AD, Associate AD/Development and University Advancement Department to develop relationships with Iona Rowing alumni, parents, and supporters to meet the program’s fundraising goals.
- Ensure that all relevant institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations are followed including, but not limited to, player eligibility, recruiting, financial student aid, scheduling, and academic progress. Assist the Associate AD/Compliance in preparing all required documentation.
