Summary: The Director of Purchasing will play an integral role within the Purchasing Department. Key responsibilities include procuring raw and perishable materials, managing stock levels and maintaining supplier relationships. Candidate must be familiar with manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Corresponding with vendors for delivery schedules, shorts & discontinued items
  • Prepare purchase orders
  • Upload weekly pricing from all vendors into On Care System
  • Negotiate with vendors for better pricing on products
  • Communicate between the field operations & the purchasing department.
  • Develop & build good relationships with key vendors & Clientele
  • Perform buying duties from small vendors, sourcing out new products & product requests
  • Scheduling & manage the purchasing department employees
  • Support the field operations & the purchasing department on implementing purchasing strategies
  • Manage purchasing department budgets and ensure that each account operates consistently within their allocated budgets.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with DDS & vendors to determine the cause of the problem & make sure immediate action is taken to prevent further issues.
  • Build and evaluate purchasing & clerical procedures in order to ensure the efficiency of operations in the purchasing department.
  • Performs audits in management and non-management homes
  • Audits done at site visits
  • Inventory control at the management and non-management homes
  • Mealtracker, Oncare and Cost tracker knowledge
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and abilities:

  • Self-starter
  • Organized
  • Resourceful
  • Minimum of 4 to 8 years of purchasing experience
  • Experience in Culinary industry
  • On Care purchasing system experience helpful
  • Good spoken and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word & Excel
  • Negotiating & networking skills
  • Attention to detail and initiative to negotiate the best pricing with existing and new vendors.
  • Good mathematical skills for working with figures and budgets
  • Ability to work well with & lead a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines & work well under pressure
  • Climbing stairwell as required.
  • Good health, physical stamina, fitness and vitality
  • Sitting & standing for extended periods of time as required

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or supply chain management; or equivalent experience
