Position Summary:
As part of the University Relations team, this position leads communication and outreach efforts to support the President, the Board of Regents and other university leadership in raising the profile and reputation of the University of Alaska (UA). The Director works closely with the public affairs and university advancement leadership at each of the universities and is also responsible for internal communications and supervision of the Office of Public Affairs. Position can be based in Fairbanks or Anchorage.Duties:
- High proficiency in oral & written communications
- Extensive journalism & public relations experience
- Working knowledge of Alaska history and politics
- Familiarity with appropriate laws, i.e., Open Meetings Act, Alaska Public Records Act, Freedom of Information Act.
- Proficiency with a variety of digital platforms.
- Analytical skills to solve problems and find the best way to convey a message.
Bachelor’s Degree in a writing or communications-related field with five or more years of progressively responsible experience in communicating to the public. Experience coordinating large scale communication campaigns. A minimum of three years experience managing a team. Demonstrated success working with senior executive level clients and stakeholders. Master’s degree in a writing- or communications-related field preferred.
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt senior administrator position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
