The Director of Grand View Musical Arts oversees musical programming at Grand View, including directing the Grand View Choir, Julefest, and music for special events (e.g., Commencement, Baccalaureate, etc.). The University seeks entrepreneurial candidates who are also interested in exploring musical initiatives (e.g., Drum Corps, Gospel Choir, Show Choir, etc.) that would attract new students to Grand View. Initially offered as a 10-month position, the position could develop into a 12-month position, depending on skills and interest of applicant.
Essential Functions of Job:
Oversee all activities necessary for successful direction of the Grand View Choir, including recruitment and auditioning of students. Serve as instructor of record for students taking Choir for course credit.
Oversee hiring and management of instructors for vocal and instrumental lessons.
Oversee hiring and management of other musical ensemble directors.
Plan and execute Julefest (Grand View’s multi-day Christmas celebration) and manage the Nielsen Concert Series.
Collaborate with Grand View’s Theatre Department regarding possible musical theater offerings for students.
Develop proposals for new initiatives, and execute as appropriate.
Collaborate with University staff to support recruiting and fundraising efforts.
Maintain a best-practice environment for collegiate-level musical programming.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with relevant experience.
Must be able and available to work outside typical working hours to support student musical programming.
Leadership qualities including problem-solving abilities, event-planning skills, supervision of others, collaboration, and friendly, courteous, professional behavior required.
Ability to successfully implement programs.
Facility with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience managing budgets.
Experience selecting music for performance and clearing copyright requirements.
Experience contracting external performers.
Working Conditions:
Most work is performed in a normal office setting.
Some work requires prolonged standing.
Sits, stands, bends, lifts up to 30 pounds and moves intermittently during working hours.
During course of day, can interact with students, faculty, and staff by computer, phone, or in person.
Requires eye-hand coordination, dexterity, and a normal range of vision and hearing.
