The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the administration of state, federal and institutional financial aid programs. This position directs all activities associated with the College’s Financial Aid and Scholarship functions including development, management, evaluation and update of policies and procedures to assure effectiveness of services and compliance with Institutional, State, Federal, College and/or Private directives which regulate the award of financial aid and scholarships.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Directs the overall operation of the Financial Aid Office to ensure that office operational procedures are performed in an efficient and effective manner by interacting positively and appropriately with students, co-workers, supervisors and visitors.
2. Provides overall oversight and responsibility for awarding, disbursing, and reconciling all federal and state aid as well as scholarships/grants in accordance with federal, state and local regulations and policies.
3. Directs the Financial Aid Office department’s operations, including staffing, budgeting, training and planning.
4. Maintains current and thorough knowledge of laws, regulations and guidelines governing institutional, state and federal student aid programs to assure the College’s compliance with regulations and mandates.
5. Establishes, interprets, evaluates, update and implements policies and procedures to govern all aspects of financial assistance including institutional scholarships.
6. Creates policies and procedures and coordinates activities essential to management of and compliance in processing of state and federal grants and loan programs as well as scholarships and other sources of student assistance.
7. Monitors student records to ensure students are meeting requirements set forth by the state and federal agencies and by public and private funding sources.
8. Coordinates activities associated with the compilation and analysis of financial assistance and enrollment data to provide administrative information and to comply with institutional, state and federal reportorial requirements.
9. Coordinates completion and submission of the annual Fiscal Operations Report and Application to Participate as well as required Applications for Recertification for Title IV eligibility.
10. Work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and integrate new information and requirements to improve the quality of service of the department.
11. Provides and conducts personal, financial, and career advising as appropriate. Makes referrals as necessary. Advises students and parents in financial planning, financial aid application and debt management.
12. Takes an active role in retention efforts to make sure that financial aid policies and procedures are being followed appropriately to assist student persistence and success.
13. Serves as a liaison between college and state, regional and national professional organizations (MASFAA, RMASFAA, NASFAA).
14. Encourages the professional development of staff and their participation in professional financial aid organizations.
15. Coordinates the integrated and automated packaging of all financial aid awards.
16. Prepare and present financial aid related topics and materials to students, parents, and other community groups.

Secondary duties assigned to this position:
1. Maintains required records and prepares required reports.
2. Prepares correspondence to students and other staff members.
3. Maintains accountability for internal and external audits related to financial aid.
4. Supports the enrollment management efforts of the University.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Personnel Management, Accounting, Education or related area required.


Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrated increased administrative responsibility in an Office of Financial Aid or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • In depth knowledge of financial aid programs including federal and state policies and procedures and guidelines required.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in record keeping systems with ability to analyze, assemble, and compile information for storage and/or completion of reports required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience supervising personnel preferred.
  • Ability to utilize personal computers and assorted software required; experience in Microsoft Office, database management and use of Banner preferred.
  • Experience in organizing complex tasks and procedures, attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal requirements for the disbursement of financial aid.
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel students and ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

1. Proven excellent customer service skills and enthusiasm for providing exceptional service to a diverse population of students.
2. Ability to remain calm and resourceful in stressful situations.
3. Ability to use discretion when dealing with sensitive, confidential materials; familiarity with FERPA is a plus.

Title IX Coordinator

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator oversees compliance with the University’s Discrimination and Grievance Policy. Specifically, the Title IX Coordinator:
  • Coordinates educational programs and trainings regarding discrimination and harassment prevention for students and employees;
  • Responds to and seeks to resolve reports of discrimination and harassment following the Procedures;
  • Provides information about and, if requested, assists with criminal reporting;
  • Provides information about resources for obtaining advocacy, healthcare, and counseling services; and
  • Coordinates supportive and protective measures for members of the MSUN community.
