About Our Job
The City and County of Denver is offering a rewarding opportunity to become a Director of Crisis Services with the Denver Police Department. We are seeking a candidate with strong relationship building skills.
This individual will oversee four units within the Crisis Service Bureau to include: Victim Assistance, Pretrial Victim Services, Outreach Case Coordinator Program, and the Crisis Intervention Response Unit
This position will be located at the Police Administration Building at 1331 Cherokee Street Denver, CO 80204.
Job responsibilities include:
Internal
  • Active engagement with DPD leadership and supervisors, continually exploring further areas of crisis service support or expansion
  • Continually maintain knowledge, data and information regarding needs, trends, research, etc. involving all areas within the purview of the Crisis Services Bureau
  • Regularly communicate with DPD leadership involving relevant information, legislation, policy, patterns, needs, trends, etc. related to crisis service matters within the city, state and country
  • Active engagement with and support for Crisis Service Bureau personnel
Community
  • Active participation in meetings, events, and other proactive community and stakeholder engagement opportunities
  • Active partnership with community-based service and support agencies and organizations
  • Proactive, post-incident coordination of support / services for communities affected by crisis
City / Local
  • Active partnership and engagement with numerous city departments, agencies, commissions, and organizations
  • Participation on numerous department, city and community committees, groups, and boards
State
  • Active participation with numerous state-level (government and non-profit) agencies and organizations
  • Participation on numerous state-level committees, groups, and boards
National
  • Active participation and membership with numerous, national (government and non-profit) agencies and organizations
  • Recommended – membership in several national, professional organizations that involve public safety, law enforcement, victim services and behavioral health matters
Research
  • Active pursuit of research opportunities and partnerships with local and national academic, professional, and scientific groups and organizations
Legislative responsibilities
  • Consult / write positions re: DPD / Dept. of Safety areas involving victims, behavioral health and crisis response
  • Availability to provide positions, data, reports, and presentations to legislative bodies including the Mayor’s Office, Denver City Council, and the State Legislature
  • Department-wide Victim Rights Act responsibilities and statutory compliance
  • U-Visa responsibilities and statutory compliance
Mass Trauma / Casualty Response
  • The DPD Crisis Services Director is responsible for a significant amount of the initial coordination and oversight of the City and County of Denver’s response to any incident involving mass trauma or casualty
Grant Oversight and Administration
  • Continually explore and implement grant and alternative funding opportunities to pilot new and enhance existing crisis services within DPD
DPD Representation
  • Represent DPD in a variety of formal and informal meetings and presentations. This includes public and community meetings, media requests, and presentations to other departments and agencies
About You

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field based on a specific position(s).
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management (comparable to at least "Manager" in the City's internal management classification series).
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
