About the Mystic Valley YMCA Food Markets
More than a food pantry, the Mystic Community Market and its additional markets is a resource that focuses on nutrition and community health. We opened in February of 2020, just weeks before the pandemic hit. Our goal was originally to have a market where shoppers could come in and pick out their own groceries, just like they would at any other supermarket, the difference being that these groceries come at no cost. Because of the pandemic, we quickly had to switch to outdoor pickup with prepackaged grocery bags, but we are grateful to have recently returned to our choice model. We are so grateful to have partners like the Greater Boston Food Bank and to have many wonderful volunteers to help us serve our diverse community.
