Position Summary:

We are seeking a Director of Campus Safety to effectively coordinate a college campus security and safety program that includes the protection of life, property, enforcement of statutes, and College regulations. The Director will provide the necessary leadership to effectively train, and develop a small team comprised of full-time and part-time safety officers to ensure round-the-clock safety on campus. This position would be responsible for strategically building and implementing safety protocols to meet campus needs including emergency preparedness while serving as a public safety authority, and serving on various college committees to collaborate and to ensure safety protocols are being upheld. The Director needs to develop strong partnerships within the local communities’ departments and agencies while collaborating on ways to better protect and serve the college community.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise the campus safety department, (full-time, and part-time campus safety officers)

  • Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive officer training program

  • Coordinate educational programming for students, faculty, and staff

  • Develop and coordinate the emergency preparedness training and drills campus-wide

  • Enforce statutes, college regulations, and investigates criminal acts, fires, accidents injuries that take place on campus including Title IX complaints in coordination with the Title IX Coordinator

  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures that assure a high level of safety in the college community

  • Coordinate & ensure round-the-clock campus safety/security for all campus needs including activities/games

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with local law enforcement agencies.

  • Collaborate with all departments including the Student Life team to assess safety protocols and practices on campus while responding to areas of concern

  • Align and coordinate the development of goals/objectives for the safety department to be consistent with the College's mission and strategic plan

  • Serve as a public safety authority and represent Campus Safety as requested on College committees

  • Conduct periodic campus safety audits and implement necessary changes

  • Advise appropriate College personnel of all safety, security, and law enforcement matters

  • Prepare/disseminate the College's Annual Security Report and ensure college compliance with the Clery Act and VAWA

  • Oversee and manage the College's emergency notification system

  • Administer the Campus Safety budget and ensure the department is adequately resourced

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree required, Bachelors Degree or higher preferred

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Cleary Act, Title IX, and VAWA

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and management skills

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in law enforcement, experience with Campus Police strongly preferred

  • Basic Law Enforcement Training certification

  • Must be able to acquire and maintain campus police certification in the state of North Carolina
