The Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting is responsible for the oversight of the accounting and control functions and for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual budgets, and annual audits while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulatory and organizational standards.
1. Oversees and ensures proper processes, procedures and controls are in place for organization-wide financial activities.
2. Designs financial statements and internal reports that provide a clear and meaningful analysis of the operating results of the organization and its individual facilities and programs
3. Establishes and maintains systems / controls to verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data.
4. Manages monthly close for multiple facilities and programs to ensure accurate reporting; manages preparation of consolidated financial statements and monthly financial reporting package.
5. Manages and coordinates annual audit and preparation of audited financial statements.
6. Ensures that consolidated financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP and other relevant rules and regulations and reasonably represent the financial performance and position of the organization
7. Prepares or reviews Form 990 and other filings; ensures compliance with all rules and regulations for governmental entities
8. Coordinates the organization’s annual audit and prepares the audited financial statements.
9. Ensures completion of annual Medicaid and Medicare cost reports.
10. Establishes and enforces financial and accounting policies for the organization.
11. Oversees the activities of Accounts Payable, Billing and Payroll departments to ensure accurate processing of all payables, billing and payroll, as well as to ensure tax compliance.
12. Ensures that excellent customer service is provided by the accounting department
13. Responds to the VP of Finance with accurate and timely work to facilitate his/her financial needs
14. Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports.
15. Personifies outstanding customer service to co-workers, clients and vendors by acting as a subject matter resource in a timely, considerate and friendly manner, always maintaining the “Golden Rule” approach; practices patience and kindness
16. Actively engages in meetings, events, workshops, or retreats as a member of the Leadership Roundtable Team (LRT)
17. Recruits, hires, leads, motivates, and provides strategic direction for and supervision of the department staff; holds staff accountable for achieving their departmental goals
a. Creates a work environment and culture in which personnel work as both individual and team members with the ability to achieve organizational goals
b. Actively promotes growth and development of staff, including opportunities to learn new skills and advance both personally and professionally
c. Ensures staff completion of required departmental competencies and review of key policies and procedures
PART III: POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited university
Required Experience: 5 years’ with all aspects of accounting and financial analysis; completion of financial statement consolidations; 5 years’ of supervisory experience and financial auditing and/or audit management
Preferred Experience: Nonprofit sector; multi-facility healthcare or social service environment; HUD financial reporting requirements; Medicaid and Medicare cost reporting; FAS; 117; 990 filings
