Description

IFC – a member of the World Bank Group – is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. We work with more than 100 countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries. In fiscal year 2022, we invested $31.5 billion in private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, leveraging the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity. Gender is a cross-cutting corporate priority for IFC, as highlighted in the World Bank Group’s Gender Strategy. IFC is deeply committed to advancing gender equality and inclusion as laid out in IFC’s 3.0 strategy that also underpin the Capital Increase.

IFC is seeking to recruit a Director for a newly established Gender and Economic Inclusion Solutions Department (GEIS), based in Washington D.C. The position reports to the Vice President of Cross-Cutting Solutions.

GEIS will drive IFC’s work on gender and economic inclusion and offer a wide range of expertise to help private and select public sector clients move the needle on gender equality and inclusion. The Department will have almost 70 staff and consultants based in more than twenty countries. She/he will be a leader who can inspire and deliver results for IFC in close collaboration with the rest of the World Bank Group.

The Director will work closely with the Gender and Economic Inclusion Group manager. Together the team will work with IFC’s investment and advisory colleagues across the regions and industries to support private and select public sector clients in providing all genders and underserved communities with equal economic opportunities as leaders, employees, entrepreneurs, consumers, and community members. In addition, GEIS will develop research on the business case and solutions for reducing gender and inclusion gaps; lead strategy development and implementation for the organization, provide client advice, support mobilization through impact investing and sustainable financing; and forge public and private sector partnerships. The Director will have a major responsibility in promoting and maintaining IFC’s leadership position in gender equality and inclusion.

To better inform clients and staff in furthering the gender equality agenda, the Director will, in conjunction with the Economics Vice Presidency, develop a body of knowledge consisting of research, analytical pieces and gender- disaggregated data. In implementing the knowledge agenda, the Director will work together with the global academic community and relevant think tanks. The Director will be the IFC interface with the World Bank, supporting a World Bank Group perspective on gender issues with a private sector lens.

The Director of the GEIS will work as part of IFC leadership team to ensure solutions on gender and economic inclusion are implemented effectively across the organization as well as support all aspects of IFC’s business strategy. This role will ensure IFC can bring gender and economic inclusion products and services to current and potential IFC clients.
