Direct Support Professional (DSP) Caregiver

At Glenkirk we provide services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and community day settings. We are looking for someone to help us in all aspects of our residents daily living.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Working in a direct care capacity with adults diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Provides supports in all aspects of life as a certified Direct Service Professional registered with Illinois’ Department of Human Services (DHS). This position is specific to our houses in and around the Lake Forrest area.

SCOPE:

Providing quality, lifetime supports and services to individuals diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities to participate fully in all areas of community life. Adhering to Glenkirk’s vision of care of the person and care of the environment on an ongoing basis.

  • Providing direct care to and promoting independence for adults diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities in all areas of community life including but not limited to; personal care; activities of daily living; behavior support; medication administration; meal planning/adhering to dietary restrictions.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment at all times, by following daily and weekly cleaning tasks and engaging in regulatory life safety practices(i.e. water temperature checks, safety drills, quarterly site reviews, ensuring a stocked first aid kit, (etc.)
  • Follow assigned curriculum/activity schedules and helping individuals achieve their Service Plan Strategy (SIS) outcomes and objectives through various means (i.e. leading community integration activities.
  • Participating in the development of Service Plan Strategies through completing mandatory paperwork, including: daily progress, progress notes, behavior treatment plans.
  • Maintain certification in required trainings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent; valid Illinois drivers license(meet and maintain drivers eligibility). Must be 18 years old or older.

Experience:

No experience necessary; paid training.

Knowledge:

Working with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirement:

Able to lift 44Ibs; able to lift and move non- & semi ambulatory individuals with the assistance of mechanical devices (i.e. Hoyer lift, gait belt, etc.); assist individuals on/off the bus/van; able to move boxes and/or furniture for cleaning, climb ladder or step stool as required.

Compensation:

This position is offered with a starting wage of $16/hr With an abundance of overtime available.
