Position Summary:
In this role, the employee will demonstrate the coaching mentoring, and counseling skills needed to train individuals with disabilities. This employee trains persons with disabilities in acclimating within a day program or work environment and offers guidance and support for the individuals.
Essential Job Functions:

  • Individual Support and Training: Provide training, coaching, mentoring, and counseling to individuals with disabilities in the areas of appropriate work attitudes, employability, work skills specific to individuals' employment, social and communication skills, use of adaptive equipment, and positive behavioral change in consultation with team members. This may be done in person, via virtual learning, and by teaching employment readiness-type classes in person. Utilize positive behavior management techniques in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia guidelines and MANDT behavior protocol. Ensure all individuals receive the required training to enable them to meet their maximum potential. Help train newly enrolled individuals by assisting with the transition process. Assist in developing creative methods and techniques that foster a learning environment that nurtures work, social and community skills. Assist with the development and utilization of virtual learning. Assist with individuals' personal needs as needed. Perform mobility training/transport for individuals as needed.
  • Reporting & Compliance: Train, monitor, and support a group of individuals in the Employment Services or Group Day programs. Complete required reporting documents. Assist in auditing sites for regulatory, procedural, and policy compliance. Familiarize yourself with and exercise the applicable personnel practices and policies of the work site, including OSHA standards and uniforms. Complete all required training to maintain licensing requirements and participate in training to develop professional skills as needed and requested.
  • Case Management: Establish and maintain good communication with parents, guardians, residential counselors, and other professionals regarding the individuals' overall progress. Coordinate the schedule for individual group training and community access outings.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in human services, behavior management, psychology, or related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of customer service experience or working with persons with disabilities is required.
  • One year or more of working with persons with disabilities in a vocational, residential, vocational program or setting is preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills is preferred.
  • In this position, the employee may develop and begin to demonstrate the attributes needed to implement and guide general and individualized curriculums for the individuals supported in the Virtual Learning Programs.
  • A valid driver's license with fewer than -6 points is preferred. May be required to drive a company vehicle for group outings.
  • May need US Citizenship and complete an SF151 if working on a federal site that is secure. Strong communication skills and the ability to network with community members are highly preferred.
