As a Direct Support Professional at Broadstep you will provide care for individuals with intellectual/development disabilities (I/DD), and mental illness, by assisting with all daily life activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend to all personal care including but not limited to toileting, dental hygiene (brushing and dental flossing if necessary), bathing, selection/care of clothing, feeding etc.
- Re-position, lift and transfer any individuals who utilize wheelchairs.
- Supervise and assist in medications taken by individuals.
- Transport, assist and advocate on medical appointments.
- Supervise self-help skills of individuals,
- Initiate and follow through on leisure time activities.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the home.
- Complete accurate documentation in Electronic Health Record (Therap)
- Provide necessary First Aid and CPR to individuals in need.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid Driver's License in good standing and not in probationary status
- Caring, compassionate and patient
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and write in English
- Use a computer for documentation purposes
- Must have a willingness to undergo required pre-employment drug screening, fingerprinting, Child Abuse Record Information (CARI) application, Central Registry background check, physical/PPD testing, and training.
- Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing.
- Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more.
- Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision.
- Use of computers and office equipment.
- Occasional driving of Broadstep vehicles for business purposes.
- Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches.
- Regularly works inside areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated.
- Some fluctuations in temperature.
- Use of protective equipment such as latex gloves, facial mask protective eyewear, and gown.
- Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
- Some degree of physical involvement in exercise of Safe and Positive Approaches.
