Department Superintendent (Decatur Corn processing) – Decatur, IL.
This is an exempt level position.
Position Summary:
Lead day-to-day operations of the operating departments in the corn processing plant. This position is responsible for the safe, successful, and progressive day-to-day operational activities and maintaining compliance with company policies, government regulation and regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DNR, FDA, USDA, FRA, HACCP, etc.). The facility processes corn into value added products and includes approximately 650 ADM and contractor colleagues.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively work to ensure that all ADM employees, visitors, vendors, and contractors understand and align with the ADM safety policies and procedures

  • Require safety and compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations

  • Work very closely with compliance personnel to ensure continuous audit readiness in a PSM and Food Safety plant

  • Utilize assets efficiently to meet production and quality goals

  • Lead department in established policies, procedures, and plant priorities

  • Guide department in a manner that results in a cohesive, focused, positive climate to achieve organizational goals

  • Provide mentorship to operators and engineers to achieve short term and long-term department performance through use of KPI’s, continuous improvement, and Performance Excellence concepts

  • Embrace an owner’s mentality by managing costs and continuously focus on efficiency improvement

  • Ensure training and development of all department employees

  • Provide mentorship, accountability, and disciplinary support as necessary

Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher of Science or Chemical Engineering or similar area of concentration

  • 5+ years in a production environment in food processing or similar industry

  • Excellent leadership ability including a vision for strategic direction, delegation, and leading others in work execution

  • Demonstrated scale-up experience and/or new technology development experience in a production environment is a plus

  • Knowledge of multiple processes and unit operations in a full-scale production plant

  • Knowledge of PSM and Food Safety Standards is vital

  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills

  • Proven track record as a phenomenal teammate

  • High energy level and clear customer focus emphasis

  • Ability to prioritize workload

  • Make decisions in a fair and professional manner

  • Possess the ability to climb stairs, lift up to 55 lbs, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, computer work, providing calculated information, working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, working adjusted hours, and in various climates

  • Prompt attendance is a requirement

  • Physical qualification to wear a respirator may be required
