DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Customer Service Manager (CSM) and in accordance with established guidelines, provides administrative support for the Customer Service Department. Determines, selects and implements administrative policies and procedures for the daily operation of the customer service department including the duties below: customer service operations, cash register operations, and business services (internet orders, mail/telephone orders and special orders). Assists the CSM with hiring, work direction, scheduling, and training of student and temporary staff in the department. Assists in the development and maintenance of cashier training and procedure manuals.
Makes recommendations to the annual departmental budget. Assesses customer needs and ensures that customer expectations are met. Works with campus departments to coordinate merchandise purchasing for special events and programs. Processes special order requests with campus departments, campus groups, faculty, staff and students. Assists with web page content and order fulfillment for any bookstore department.
- Overtime during peak periods is required. Alternative work schedule including Holidays, weekends, and evenings required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Thorough understanding of retailing principles including cashiering, customer service and sales. Demonstrated customer service skills gained through experience in a highly customer service oriented retail environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of computerized cash register and cash handling systems and procedures with the ability to communicate and resolve system software and hardware problems.
Demonstrated knowledge of basic retail security practices and techniques including cash control practices and procedures.
Solid analytical skills to analyze data and financial statements. Solid math skills with ability to establish and calculate retail prices and discounts.
Proven ability to train, provide work direction and furnish input on work execution.
Proficiency in PC use and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn and use inventory management applications.
Skill at exercising judgment for effective problem solving with the ability to resolve disputes and handle irate customers effectively.
Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize workload effectively and work independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of people including vendors, faculty, staff and students. Superior interpersonal skills including tack and diplomacy.

Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $40,700 - $78,258 Annually
The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
