Deer Park Branch - Collections Specialist Job at Shell Federal Credit Union
Shift Hours:
M,T,W,F: 8:30 AM - 5:15 PM, TH: 8:30 AM - 5:45 PM & Occasional Saturdays
The Collection Specialist is responsible for the administrative tasks of the Collections Department.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Consistently meet all Shell FCU Service Commitments; Shell FCU Employee Creed and Shell FCU Service Distinctions
- Accountable to maintain knowledge of and comply with all applicable rules and regulations required within the scope of duties, including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act
- Required to attend annual training sessions as instructed or scheduled
- Perform job duties and responsibilities in compliance to SFCU policies, procedures, philosophy and standards of performance. Represent the credit union in bankruptcy, foreclosure, and legal matters including workouts, liquidations and related litigation
- Understand and apply all new and existing regulation related to bankruptcy, foreclosure and legal matters to the collection department workflow
- Propose comprehensive solutions to all bankruptcy, foreclosure and legal matters to management as needed
- Works with difficult or delinquent borrowers to reach suitable arrangements to restore accounts to current status
- Assist in maintaining and preparing loss mitigation records including but not limited to, delinquent taxes, forbearance documentation and modification requests
- Responsible for filing applicable loss mitigation documentation with real property as needed
- Responsible for filing litigation against borrowers that meet credit union stipulations and representing the credit union in such litigation as needed
- Responsible for filing applicable Proof of Claims and Reaffirmations with the bankruptcy courts for borrowers that meet credit union stipulations and represent the credit union in bankruptcy courts
- Compile necessary documents for repossessions, bankruptcy and legal referrals
- Post legal, bankruptcy and repossession updates to the Collection System
- Process incoming Bankruptcy mail, create folders, forward to attorney for filing of claims (where applicable) and maintain accurate internal files. Maintain accurate log for Bankruptcy Trustee payments
- Maintain Credit Bureau updates within the eOscar system and process credit reporting disputes
- Process incoming third party agency payments and maintain the corresponding log for payments
- Assist with Research requests (when applicable)
- Stay abreast of changes and developments on laws governing collections, repossession and bankruptcy
- Serve as a backup Collector (when applicable)
- Performs additional duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills
- Experience:
- Five to seven years Collections and/or related experience.
- Thorough knowledge of all collection department functions.
- Education / Training:
- (1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.
- Job Requirements:
- Must possess professional verbal communication skills
- A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact.
- Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal and sensitive nature.
- Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of the MS Office Suite.
- Accuracy with numbers and attention to detail.
- Perform all work within established policies and procedures
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend and stand. May at times be able to lift, carry and/or move up to 15 pounds.
