DEAN of STUDENTS
The Dean of Students is a vice principal level position that assists the Principal by providing vision and direction to the holistic student experience at ASA. This position is dedicated to equitable access for students to experience ASA’s innovative college preparatory curriculum, immersed in the performing arts and models ASA mission and values. The Dean of Students leads the development of student support services including the Counseling Department, coordinates Community Support Resources, and Restorative Practices, and Administrators-in-Training. The Dean of Students supervises student conduct enforcing requirements documented in the Community Handbook and Student Code of Conduct. They work closely with the Principal to set and meet goals for the betterment of the school. In the absence of the Principal, this administrator may be required to assume the duties and responsibilities of the Principal.

This position reports to the School Principal and serves on the Senior Leadership Team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Promotes a cooperative spirit and shared decision-making among and between Grade Level and Arts and Academic Department Leaders and parents to enhance the educational and social climate of the school.
- Communicates effectively with students, teachers, families, and community partners.
- Acts as budget manager for programs, related to student life and student services.
- Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates and retains high quality support staff and selects appropriate community resources to augment site based programs and support services.
- Leads and supports the Student Support Team and Administrators-in-Training.
- Acts as Standardized Test Coordinator
- With oversight from the Principal, collaborates with the Dean of Academics and the Dean of Arts to create and implement multi-year/multi-level faculty professional development programs to support and guide teachers that are aligned with ASA’s mission, school policies, and instructional practices.
- With oversight from the Principal and in collaboration with the Dean of Academics and Dean of Arts leads student orientations and peer mentoring programs to improve student connectedness, success.
Student Conduct and Discipline
- Supervises student conduct enforcing requirements documented in the Community Handbook and the Student Code of Conduct.
- Manages progressive and equitable student disciplinary procedures to maintain a safe and productive learning environment keeping a record of any disciplinary action.
- Applies culturally responsive, social and emotional learning practices to student interventions and discipline.
- Engages with students and parents about school conduct policies, to correct inappropriate behavior, identify student challenges, and develop/implement behavior intervention strategies that maximize opportunities for success.
- Monitors tardiness, attendance and truancy; coordinates with attendance clerk, campus health aide, counselor and Academic and Arts Deans.
School Climate
- Collaborates with the Deans of Arts and Academics on programs and activities that promote student success and wellbeing including new student orientation and peer mentoring programs.
- Develops student relationships essential to the integrity of the learning environment.
- Assists Deans of Arts and Academics in training office staff and faculty in effective implementation school policies outlined in the Community Handbook and the
Student Code of Conduct.
- Meets with teachers and parents regarding student conduct and support services as needed.
Other Duties
- Work with the Office Administrator to hire, train, and find coverage for teacher absences.
- Works with the college counselor to ensure that all students have the proper courses for graduation and college entrance – communicate with families as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field .
- 2 Years of proven and successful experience as a school Assistant/Vice Principal.
- 4 years of proven and successful classroom teaching.
- Active Arizona Department of Public Safety issues IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Personal Characteristics:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven educational leadership in a similar environment.
- Experience with student discipline, restorative justice practices, and student services
- Leadership in systems development, program evaluation, staff development, school improvement and staff supervision and evaluation.
Salary and Benefits:
- Commensurate with experience. Member of ASRS.
