Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth Services Skills Trainer
NILP is a rapidly growing, human service agency who assists persons with all types of disabilities who wish to live independently in their community throughout Northeast Massachusetts. NILP provides five core services of Advocacy, Peer Counseling, Information and Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, and Transition. NILP believes in consumer control and self-direction and provides these services with the knowledge that persons with disabilities are the best determinants of their needs and goals.
Under the supervision of the Youth Services leadership team, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth Services Skills Trainer will build relationships with local businesses and organizations to recruit for internship sites for the youth, provide job development and skills training. We are seeking applicants who are passionate about helping others and willingness to show a commitment to the Independent Living philosophy.
What you will be doing:
- Provide independent living skills to youth through job development and skills training in and out of schools
- Provide information and referral, advocacy, skills training, peer counseling and service coordination to program participants
- Establish relationships with local businesses and discover workplace learning experiences for youth
- Document progress notes in computerized data management system
Who we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background and awareness of Deaf culture and issues facing the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Preference will be given to persons of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community or with significant personal lived experience.
This position has flexibility and can be Full-time or Part-time with the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule after completion of the introductory period.
- Native or near native ASL signer Required
- Knowledgeable about Deaf culture
- Fluent in written English
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and promptly
- Able to travel independently and reliably
- Able to work independently and within teams in both remote and in-person environments
