Database Administrator
FutureFuel Chemical Company is looking for a new member for its Information Technology Team to specialize in database development and deployment. The ideal candidate would be a creative IT professional with experience in business intelligence, analysis, and the ability to develop workable solutions to information needs. This is an on-site position.
The candidate selected for this job will initially focus on optimizing data systems in the Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSES) Department and will transition over time to a position in the plant wide Information Technology (IT) Department. While working in the HSES Department, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to train with other “in the fence” departments and become familiar with numerous FutureFuel job roles.
HSES programs touch every department and every person working at or visiting FutureFuel. While working as the HSES Database Developer, the selected candidate will gather and organize information from across the plant, validate data accuracy, generate data files for numerous government agency reports, and store information in an easily accessible format. The HSES Department presently uses over 60 databases and information banks that have been developed by various people over many years. Many are inefficient and difficult to use. These databases need to be evaluated for redundancy, combined and automated wherever possible, and reports should be formatted to meet internal and external customer needs. Government agencies cross-check data entered into Central Data Exchange (CDX) databases and flag data discrepancies; therefore, it is critical that data submitted by various HSES areas is both consistent and accurate.
The HSES Database Administrator will work closely with FutureFuel’s IT and Process Control Departments to ensure HSES data systems work in concert with plant-wide computer systems. As internal HSES data systems are improved, more time will be devoted to learning about plant wide data systems and working with the IT Department. The transition time from HSES to IT will be contingent upon the size of the HSES work backlog.

Basic Requirements:
- Documented experience developing database projects using SQL Server
- BS degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent preferred

- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, data analysis and visualization skills
- Understand the concepts of other programming languages
- The ability to work through and with others to achieve objectives in a team environment

- Working knowledge of Google software applications
- Fundamental knowledge of Computer Science and Computer Information Technology principals

Specific Technical Skills:
REQUIRED (documented experience preferred):
- Experience with SQL Server development using Transact-SQL
- Experience leveraging HTML, Classic ASP, and PHP for web application development
- Experience with scripting languages (VBScript and JavaScript)
- Experience building applications and/or reporting that spans multiple, different data sources
- Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL server database administration/setup experience
- Experience with database performance tuning
- Strong Microsoft Access and Excel skills
- Experience in Data Modeling, Database design and well versed with SQL Server best practices
- Significant experience with the full software development life cycle so as to be able to identify dependencies and risks
- Broad understanding and knowledge of current IT domains, usage patterns and trends
- Applies solid technical abilities, analytical, problem solving skills and application knowledge in resolving the production issues
- Resolves challenging problems in collaboration with others
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots complex application problems, and leverages tools and resources appropriately to identify solutions
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace applications
PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years’ experience with SQL Server development using Transact-SQL
- 3+ years’ experience leveraging HTML, Classic ASP, and PHP for web application development
- 3+ years’ experience with scripting languages (VBScript and JavaScript)
- Experience leveraging OPC connections to query industrial process control systems
- Strong experience with database performance tuning especially tuning complex queries, procedure and indexing strategies
- SAP ERP experience
- Google Apps API experience
- Hands-on SQL-XML programming skills
- XML Databases and Indexing/Search
- XML Extraction and Transformation
- SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for report generation
- SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) knowledge and experience
- Performs advanced troubleshooting across all application components, debug, fix code, deploy and test the fixes
