Performs technical work necessary to coordinate the school’s student information system activities. Provides primary support and training for users of the student information system. Does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees the school’s student information system application including data entry, data validation and reporting;
- Trains school building users on the student information system application and network operations;
- Coordinates existing administrative procedures and user handbooks appropriately with student information system operations;
- Performs daily, weekly and regularly scheduled file server backups;
- Performs quality checking on data entry by other school staff;
- Designs and executes complex queries of the student database to extract information for reporting and analysis;
- Meets school division and school building deadlines for processing and reporting student data;
- Participates in student information system users’ group(s) as appropriate;
- Participates in development and delivery of division-wide training for the student information system;
- Works with Information Services to insure the smooth operation of the school's microcomputer network by trouble-shooting problems, monitoring systems security, adding and deleting users, maintaining necessary files and directories and installing updates to student information system software;
- Works with Information Services to determine hardware needs to support users’ requests and advises on hardware purchases to comply with Information Services standards;
- Works with Information Services to provide support as required for administrative computers including at least: installation of microcomputers and LAN software and hardware; network operating system management functions; and, limited user training on software and hardware for microcomputers and LAN;
- Performs various other functions as required.
Knowledge of database management, word processing, spreadsheets, networking, and data communications; ability to organize and plan work for self and others; ability to develop training materials and skills in conducting training; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education or experience equivalent to graduation from high school and at least one year experience supporting a networked (Novell or Microsoft NT) database application. Documented and certified post high school classes providing technical knowledge may be considered as additional experience.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:
Work is typically performed in an office setting primarily sitting at office equipment, with occasional walking throughout the school building. Lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required. Frequent operation of microcomputers, printers and a variety of office machines is required. Regular contact is made with school administrators, teachers and students. Occasional contact is made with the general public.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
