Chemours is seeking a Data Science Manager to join our growing Digital Data and Analytics team! This position will report directly to the Director of Data Science and Engineering in our Wilmington, DE location.
This Data Science Manager role will work to expand and enhance the machine learning pipelines that feed predictive insights to Chemours employees, enabling Digital transformation across the company, including our global network of manufacturing sites.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Managing and mentoring a team both junior and experienced data scientists
  • Delegating and overseeing work across the team and serving as a point of contact for solution stakeholders across the enterprise
  • Working collaboratively across one or more agile project teams
  • Serving as a point of contact for data science expertise and advice to “citizen data scientists” across the enterprise
  • Understanding business objectives and mapping specific prediction capabilities to support desired outcomes
  • Organizing and leading discussions to review and compare statistical modeling / machine learning approaches, aspects of the underlying algorithms and their results with Chemours data
  • Evaluating new technologies that may bring additional automation and capability to machine learning pipelines at Chemours
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
  • Manager experience in the setting of technical solution development and deployment
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely, share knowledge and make key decisions
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, proven team leader as well as contributor
  • Ability to create clear and concise presentation material that drives home key points to an audience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math, statistics, engineering, or related field
  • 3-7 years of experience with SQL, Python, pandas, and scikit-learn packages specifically, as well as Python package and Linux environment administration in general
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
  • Master’s degree or PhD in computer science, math, statistics, engineering, or related field
  • Experience using Microsoft Azure service platforms for automated machine learning at scale
  • Experience reading plant process and instrumentation diagrams
  • Experience with time series data in chemical process manufacturing
  • Knowledge of machine learning (ML), probability and multivariate statistics (e.g., hypothesis testing, PCA/PLS)
  • Experience with plant process modeling (specifically polymer reaction) and simulation (dynamic modeling) based in first principles augmented with empirical methods
  • A background in operations research, control system design, implementation and/or optimization (e.g., of set points given input conditions and uncertainty)
