The DM/A will work with the rest of the team to make sure there is organizational alignment from the data prospective. Will be a core member in driving the product development process of the UCSF Dyslexia Center CA Dyslexia Screener Pilot project, holding all sub-contractors, contractors, and other involved contributors accountable for meeting milestones and deadlines pertaining to data collection and analysis. Participates with high level program leaders in strategic thinking and planning pertaining to the CA Pilot project including the PI and other stakeholder within the ALBA lab.

We are looking for a Data Manager/Analyst for the Multitudes Project. The Multitudes Project is a California State founded project aiming to bridge Neuroscience and public schools with the intent to develop a battery for early detection and intervention for children with Dyslexia.

The Data Manager/Analyst will be the core of the data organization throughout the Multitudes project. This includes collaborations with other institutions, universities, school districts and other stakeholders involved in data collection, analysis, and interpretation. This position will be central in coordinating the effort to create a strong data pipeline architecture for a wide variety of research data pertinent to the project.

The Data Manager/Analyst will help design and conduct research including selecting data samples, developing research instruments, analyzing collected information according to established statistical methods, and developing recommendations based on research findings. The role will also imply supervision of the junior analyst(s) and collaboration with other stakeholders in preparing reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and diffuse data and results.

We are looking for an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems / issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. The Data Manager/Analyst will need to have Project Management skills to keep stakeholders aligned, has the ability to envision a future data architecture to support Artificial Intelligence and predictive analytic models to create innovative approaches to precision science and research to guide progressive, science based, result driven personalized interventions.

The Data Manager/Analyst will work with Multitudes faculty and data science team to manage, communicate, and analyze data pertaining to all aspects of a complex multi-institutional project. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research professional with a full understanding of in-depth statistical analyses and research software programming techniques. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for answering specific queries in the service of research and development and will report to the COO.

The role also involves technical acumen for planning, designing, developing, implementing and administering data-based systems that acquire, prepare, store and provide access to data and metadata. Maintains and optimizes systems and migrates data and systems as needed. Ensures integrity and completeness of data and workflow, manages and / or develops data practices, databases and information systems as well as guidelines, dictionaries, registries and / or services. Interpretation of scientific research data artifacts as well as mediation across science and technology domains and long-term data care. As information architect and data steward, designs systems, data products and / or data production processes while focusing on data curation, data exchange, data security, data integrity and information environments. (Re)evaluates frameworks, strategies, standards and standards-making activities. Involve work with a project-level data repository, a center or an archive.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

The Multitudes Project is part of the Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is the largest division within the Department of Neurology with a diverse workforce of over 260 employees. The Department of Neurology is a teaching, research and clinical care unit within the School of Medicine (SOM). The Department of Neurology is a large, multi-site department, with locations including Mission Bay, Parnassus, Mt. Zion, ZSFG, VAMC and the Gladstone Institutes, and is affiliated with the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. The department is constructed of 14 administrative divisions with 11 clinical specialties. The department has over 230 faculty and academic employees, 290 staff positions, and 170 trainees including: residents, clinical fellows and postdoctoral scholars.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 5 years of experience in the related fields.
  • Ability to prepare complex data models unassisted.
  • Proven modeling and information design skills.
  • Familiarity with highly complex logical data design and data mapping or data conversion.
  • Advanced knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated service orientation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated advanced problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced analytical and design skills, including the ability to abstract information requirements from real-world processes to understand information flows in computer systems.
  • Ability to represent relevant information in abstract models. Critical thinking skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and model complex knowledge-intensive processes such as scholarly and research processes.
  • Experience in data integration and the specification of data services.
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Familiarity with highly complex data quality and governance issues and requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant rules and regulations.
