Data Engineer

As a Data Engineer within the Engineering organization, you will own and be part of business analytics projects focusing on building the data foundation to help us scale our reporting services and capabilities. As a Data Engineer you will drive transformational data and analytics initiatives for improving the effectiveness and efficiency for the Vetsource organization. You will be expected to manage end to end delivery of small to medium scale projects in the data & analytics area through partnership with the entire analytics org, both at strategic and tactical levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the analytics team to help model and publish data sets from our production systems for users to access through reporting and business intelligence technologies.

  • Drive data best practices within the engineering teams so that products and services are developed with analytics as a first class priority.

  • Collaborate with the technical operations team to define and implement efficient maintenance plans as well as proactive monitoring capabilities.

  • Perform periodic reviews to assess health and performance of production data platforms and recommend preventive measures that mitigate impact to business customers and control/reduce expenses.

  • Participate in the use of Agile practices to elicit and refine requirements through an iterative process of planning, defining acceptance criteria, prioritizing, developing and delivering enterprise data asset solutions.

  • Develop solutions using appropriate languages, tools, databases, and technologies. You care about the overall solution.

  • Analytical and problem-solving experience, exposure to large-scale systems and some experience writing code.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, data science, a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling and data warehousing methodologies.
  • Deep understanding of complex SQL and knowledge of database technologies including window and analytical functions.
  • An ability to provide technical guidance, direction and problem solving to less technical audiences.
