Sasaki Strategies, an in-house team of designers, analysts, and software developers, is looking for a new analyst to help us incorporate data into our design and planning work. Sasaki is one of the leading multi-disciplinary design firms in the world, with over 350 employees based primarily in the Boston region and over 700 awards for excellence in our architecture, site, and planning and urban design practices. Our team is a collaborative, cross-disciplinary group. This role will play a critical link between our design and planning services and the increasing use of complex data to inform decisions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of data cleaning and analysis combined with a passion for finding the “so what” within a dataset that can drive decision-making. Although the preferred location is Boston, MA, we are open to candidates from the Denver & New York offices as well.

What is the role and key activities?

  • Supporting data visualization efforts through data processing and analysis
  • Working with project teams to analyze data, interpret and prepare graphics and other materials to communicate key findings and strategies
  • Supporting Strategies product development through prototyping and research on emerging datasets and opportunities for new tools, workflows, or another initiative

Requirements

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a data-focused role, preferably related to geospatial or built environment topics
  • Strong track record of implementing data processing techniques to clean, parse, and store datasets in both flat and database formats
  • Demonstrated expertise working with Microsoft Excel, Tableau and other tools for data manipulation
  • Ability to develop consistent, repeatable workflows for processing common data tasks
  • A collaborative approach to problem-solving and task completion
  • Experience with using statistical techniques for drawing insights: descriptive statistics, regression analysis, etc.

Additional Desired Skills

  • Experience with machine learning and other advanced techniques for analyzing and generating data
  • Experience working with geospatial datasets and programs, including census data and ArcGIS
  • Basic exposure to code and scripting: python, JavaScript, R and services like AWS
  • Knowledge of one of our disciplines (planning, architecture, etc.) is ideal but optional
