Responsibilities:
The
Cytotechnologist I will work
Regular Full-Time Days and will perform and verify (reports) cytological tests on acceptable specimens to obtain accurate data in accordance with established procedures and protocols and in a timely manner.
The Cytotechnologist I performs microscopic screening of cytological specimens following established procedures within the established turn round time, utilizing the laboratory information system as appropriate.- As a Cytotechnologist I, you will maintain a departmental turnaround time of 95% of the specimens at less than five days as observed by supervisor.
- The Cytotechnologist I verifies work of cytopreparatory technician.
- The Cytotechnologist I prepares slides on acceptable specimens for microscopic examination and performs manual and automatic staining procedures in accordance to established protocols in a timely manner.
- As a Cytotechnologist I, you will understand the role and responsibilities of individual members as part of the health care team including their ability to promote the delivery of quality healthcare.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
- Utilizes and maintains equipment and supplies appropriately and prudently.
- Maintains technical competence within areas of responsibility by completing annual competency requirements as defined by departmental policy and documented within the department.
Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. This mandate requires COVID-19 vaccinations for personnel working for or on behalf of our hospitals and nursing homes. The New York State mandate allows for medical exemptions and religious accommodations, when appropriate. All candidates who accept an offer from Bassett Healthcare Network will be required to show proof of vaccination as required by New York State.
Education:
- Prerequisites include a Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology from an accredited cytotechnology program, OR professional training programs offered through either the military service of the United States or the military service of the state which may, where applicable, be accepted by the NYS Education Department for licensing purposes as equivalent education and training in lieu of all or part of an approved program.
- Candidates must be qualified as a Medical Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.
- Candidates must be qualified as a Cytotechnologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.
Experience:
- Experience in standard laboratory methodologies required.
- Previous Clinical Laboratory experience preferred.
Licensure/Certificates:
- Licensure by NYS SED or licensure eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Cytotechnologist.
- Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit.
- Limited License is granted to individuals who are working in the lab completing the education and examination requirements necessary to be licensed as a Cytotechnologist.
- Limited licenses cannot be renewed and will not be valid beyond September 1, 2013.
Scope of Practice:
- Individuals are required to practice within the responsibilities of their license, and perform specific tasks for which they have been deemed competent.
Skills:
- Requires the ability to provide high quality laboratory service in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
- Demonstrates good communication skills, the ability to organize and prioritize workload and work with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires extensive sitting.
- Must be able to push/pull and lift supplies/reagents/equipment less than 10lbs.
- Must be able identify and differentiate colors.
