About the Position

We are seeking a part-time Customs Compliance Specialist who is an expert in international trade regulations and customs compliance and assist with trade activities to import and export shipments.

The Customs Compliance Specialist works closely with USA customs and ensures all entries are filed accurately and in timely manner with correct product classifications. Also, works closely with freight forwarder and internal local and global teams to clear shipments and file required documents including duty drawback. Serves finance, compliance, and logistics teams to ensure full compliance with Customs.

You Will

  • Develops, modifies, maintains and executes the Trade Compliance Import / Export Program including policies, processes and procedures for use across North America sites including leading the import / export audit and assessments.
  • Provides oversight and management of all import/export compliance / operational issues; interacts with customs agencies to resolve regulatory and transactional queries including self-voluntary disclosures.
  • Leads all aspects of daily import and export processes, documentation, recordkeeping, and due diligence.
  • Ensures full compliance for import transactions, including issuance of clearance instructions, monitoring, record keeping, and auditing.
  • Evaluates, implements, and supports opportunities for optimizing duty savings associated with customs imports by conducting duty analyses and use of duty minimization programs (i.e., FTZs and FTAs e.g. USMCA)
  • Acts as the primary collaborator with the Company's customs brokers and freight forwarders on import and export issues. Monitor performance of brokers and forwarders against Company instructions and critical metrics.
  • Pulls reports from the ACE system and conduct analysis to monitor risk and compliance (e.g., tariff classification, country of origin, use of free trade agreements, etc.).
  • Responds to inquiries regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, or other import issues to ensure timely clearance.
  • Supports the development and implementation of corrective actions and hold affiliates, suppliers, and brokers accountable for compliance.
  • Assists in risk and opportunity management by continually reviewing relevant customs and import/export regulations for changes that affect the Company's business.
  • Conducts ongoing document and transactional audits and validations to identify gaps/errors.
  • Proactively monitor all activities with brokerage companies as they relate to post summary corrections
  • Manage Customs record keeping requirements – Acts as the Records Information Management (RIM) coordinator for the team
  • Work with various partners such as Sourcing, Tax, Finance, and Logistics to identify root-cause analysis and corrective action for customs compliance related issues

You Have

  • Minimum of 2 years of USA Import/Export experience
  • Experience with freight forwarding is preferred
  • Forward thinking and possesses the ability to anticipate needs and act upon requests independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and solid interpersonal skills required
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Experience with a Global Trade Management (GTM) platform (i.e. ORACLE) and/or foreign trade zone (FTZ) a plus.
  • Knowledge of HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule)
  • Knowledge of Canadian customs and export regulations.
  • Experience in obtaining and analysing data from US Customs and Border Protection’s Automated Commercial Enterprise (ACE) interface.
  • Experience working with customs brokers, and monitoring accuracy and compliance with documented instructions.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
