General Description

Position is responsible for general cleaning duties of a school building that may require frequent lifting up to 45 pounds, moving up to 75 pounds and the operation of commercial cleaning equipment. Tasks performed are specific with recurring assignments and are performed under general supervision of the Building Operations Supervisor. May be required to work after hours, weekends and holidays. Will be required to work Monday – Friday.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs general cleaning duties to include inside fixtures, floors, walls, and windows.

  • Perform intermediate to advanced tasks in floor care, upholstery, window covering maintenance and deep cleaning tasks.
  • Perform small leadership support tasks which include but not limited to coordinating and performing preventative custodial maintenance tasks.
  • Prepare standard reports including daily task reports, work control documents, work orders, and inventory checklists.
  • Work independently and in a team environment to complete assigned duties.
  • Apply all environmental, safety and health requirements in day-to-day tasks
  • Assists with school lunch coverage (day shift) and cleaning of the cafeteria.
  • Performs cleaning duties to include moving furniture, stripping floors, snow removal, and trash removal.
  • Monitors halls and restrooms to ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Secures building where applicable.
  • Keeps grounds and outside walkways clean around the immediate perimeter of the building.
  • Provides coverage for after school and weekend activities.
  • Setting-up and tearing-down for school events
  • May be occasionally required to assist Building Operations Supervisor (BOS) and maintenance personnel with building repairs.
  • Perform building inspections using CleanTelligent software.
  • Unlock and lock facilities as required.
  • Reports maintenance issues and preventative repairs daily.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, handle paper files, records, computer and equipment controls, talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must frequently lift up to 45 pounds and/or move up to 75 pounds and possess the strength to operate commercial cleaning equipment.
Work Environment :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot or cold conditions and risk of electrical shock. Some work is performed outside. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :

Working knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and cleaning standards. Ability to operate commercial cleaning equipment. Requires the ability to use standard English to: read, communicate, understand and follow written instructions; write simple sentences, and comprehend labeling on products. Ability to work safely and efficiently with machinery. Basic computer and keyboarding skills. Practice and understand the elements of good customer service, good communication skills, comprehension skills, and interaction with others.

Requirements

Requires the ability to speak effectively and communicate in the English language. Valid VA Driver's License. Education, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skill and abilities.
