The Custodian reports directly to the Plaza Manager. The primary duty of this position is to maintain the cleanliness of the Central Florida Expressway Authority’s toll facilities by performing routine maintenance and custodial duties. This position is responsible for the daily upkeep of the Boggy Creek and John Young Toll Plazas and un-staffed ramps. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to cleaning activities and minor maintenance of restrooms, offices and toll booths, entrances, lobbies, corridors, and computer rooms. Additionally custodians are responsible for cleaning of refrigerators, cleaning of all floor surfaces, removal of trash and debris (inside and outside), restocking of supplies, cleaning of windows and doors and other duties as assigned.

This position may be cross-trained as a Toll Service Attendant, which under direct supervision, collects and accounts for tolls; accurately classifies vehicles and processes non-revenue transactions; is accountable for assigned Tour Fund and revenue collection; maintains accuracy of deposit and transition of funds; provides directional information and courteous customer service; assists with traffic control and advises of safety hazards within toll lanes; follows well-defined methods and procedures; becomes competent in all aspects of toll plaza operations; and follows the Toll Service Supervisor’s (TSS) and Toll Service Manager’s (TSM) instructions.

This position is essentially in an outdoor work environment, subject to weather conditions. Crossing traffic lanes safely requires good mobility, vision and hearing to be alert to traffic conditions. Peak traffic conditions require a high volume of transactions to be processed under demanding conditions. This work impacts the traveling public and as such requires courtesy, efficiency, and professionalism at all times. This position will split time between the Boggy Creek and John Young Toll Plazas.
Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the interior of the toll facility administrative building, tunnels and tunnel stairs, toll booths and remote ramp locations including sweeping, mopping, emptying wastebaskets, dusts and polish furniture, clean windows, clean and stock restroom facilities.
  • Responsible for keeping parking areas, lanes, and lawns free of trash. Must collect and load trash in appropriate waste receptacles.
  • Perform yard work as directed.
  • Safely walk in toll lanes carrying up to 50lbs and where available climb and descend tunnel stairs carrying 50lbs.
  • Speak and understand English proficiently to effectively communicate with motorists and respond to inquiries in a courteous, professional and helpful manner.
  • Perform related work as required by the TSM or TSS; Perform TSA duties as assigned by the TSM or TSS.
  • At times, it may be necessary to work Overtime/and or stay after the end of your normal shift.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with the plaza staff, management/supervisory staff and customers.
  • Must possess Valid Florida driver’s license, available personal vehicle, current vehicle insurance, and contact number.
  • Must speak, write, and understand English; Ability to follow oral and written instructions; Must be willing to work Monday to Friday Ability to perform routine maintenance duties;
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and other tools; Ability to maintain the cleanliness of a toll facility.
  • Ability to safely use and mix chemicals used in toll facilities.
Preferred:
  • One year of any housekeeping, custodial or janitorial experience.
  • High school diploma or graduate equivalency (GED).
  • Previous toll experience.

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
