Job Duties

ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

We are accepting applications for a part-time permanent custodial worker (scheduled for 1600 hours per fiscal year) within the Division of Parks & Watercraft, headquartered at Caeser Creek State Park, assigned to Warren county. Official position description:
Performs various housekeeping duties: cleans & maintains restrooms, offices, &/or shower houses, &/or shelters, &/or cabins & supply & linen rooms, &/or laundry facilities (e.g., dusts, mops, sweeps, buffs & waxes floors, scrubs sinks, toilets, countertops, walls & ceilings, dusts & cleans furniture & equipment, removes cobwebs, empties trash, washes windows & walls, polishes mirrors & glass, vacuums & shampoos carpet, changes linens, replenishes soap, paper towels & toilet paper, applies cleaning chemicals, secures/locks doors & windows); may drive state vehicles from area to area of the park, district, state to perform job duties (e.g., drive to cabin area, transport cleaning supplies, pick up supplies, attend meetings & online training, run errands).

Performs miscellaneous related duties: removes snow & ice from sidewalks, porches, laundry facilities; sweeps dirt & debris from exterior walkways & steps, shelter houses; removes litter from grounds; replaces light bulbs; orders & stocks supplies; moves furniture; performs laundry duties (e.g., operates washing machines & dryers, washes, dries, folds & sorts blankets, towels, rugs, linens); orders & stocks supplies (e.g., pots, pans, dishes, silverware, utensils, linens); reports broken items, vandalism & maintenance issues (e.g., to supervisor, maintenance staff); removes debris from building exteriors (e.g., leaves, rocks); performs minor grounds keeping duties (e.g., leaf blowing, mow/trim grass, trims bushes, plants flowers); cleans charcoal grills; cleans picnic tables; operates 2-way radio receiving & transmitting messages; uses computer (e.g., to check e-mail, complete activity logs, timesheets).

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposed to chemicals in cleaning products; may be exposed to unpleasant weather conditions; may work evenings; may be exposed to dangerous consumers, residents or youth; may be required to work weekends &/or flexible hours.


Qualifications
Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading & speaking common English vocabulary. In accordance with Section 124.11(B)(2), revised code, Director of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
Knowledge of cleaning practices & procedures*; addition & subtraction. Skill in operating cleaning equipment & tools*. Ability to carry out simple instructions; recognize safety warnings; stand, walk or bend continuously; lift up to 50 lbs. frequently. (*)Developed after employment.
