Montecito Bank & Trust is seeking a full-time Credit Analyst to join our Commercial Lending Group department. The Credit Analyst will deliver a World Class Experience by supporting the Relationship and Portfolio Managers in managing the day-to-day credit processes and performing analytics necessary to support prudent lending decisions. The Credit Analyst is responsible for gathering and reviewing financial information, preparation of financial spreads and analysis for both client and prospects. The Credit Analyst may be required to provide direct customer contact under the guidance of a Portfolio Manager. As a member of the Commercial Lending Group, the Credit Analyst supports the team in achieving its goals, including the growth of a portfolio, ensuring compliance with risk management and strengthening the customer relationships.


Minimum Requirements, Activities & Responsibilities

Education and Experience:

  • A four-year college or university degree in Accounting, Economics, Business, or related subject required; or any combination of a two-year college degree and two years of professional analytic work experience required.
  • One year of accounting courses consisting of a completion of 12 units required (Ex: the three intermediate accounting courses, income taxation, managerial accounting, and cost accounting
  • Completion of a financial statement analysis course required.
  • Proficiency in Principles of Financial Accounting required.
  • Prior banking experience preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares and analyzes financial spreads for business and personal tax returns, various financial statements, and supporting schedules utilizing a variety of available software.
  • Compares client and prospect spreads and financial parameters to industry, competition, and industry standards.
  • Conducts research of industry, maintains, and monitors the continuing trends of business and financial importance in the client/prospect’s marketplace.
  • Initiates renewal process by providing the needs list to the portfolio manager, updating financial spreads, and summarizing material changes to credit or financial standing.
  • Covenant Tracking: Assumes responsibility for monthly monitoring and tracking of department portfolio, e.g. outstanding, commitments, funding, projected funding, repayments, and other such parameters as may be requested.
  • Covenant Tracking: Follows up on receipt of loan agreement required financial exhibits, runs appropriate calculations to determine compliance, and informs/discusses with portfolio manager and relationship manager of any existing violations that need attention.
  • Adheres to all regulatory compliance procedures; becomes conversant in these Regulations.
  • Supports annual review process.
  • Pulls, reviews, and files UCC and credit reports.
  • Works with Loan Support Specialists and Loan Coordinators to create electronic financial files and maintains those files with up-to-date financial information.
  • Generates tickler letters and notifications which are sent to the client for information requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to lead by example in a team setting and work independently while performing duties.
  • Current driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to perform this position safely, without endangering the health or safety to himself or herself or others.
  • Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
  • Must be able to work effectively either independently or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities.
  • Must be able to demonstrate highest levels of customer service and confidentiality with internal and external customers.
