Crane Operator Job at Manson Construction Co.
The crane operator is responsible for running a barge mounted crawler crane in support of all dredging and attendant plant operations. The employee must be able to work 8 to 12 hour shifts on all types of dredges or marine construction projects. Must be able to pass a post offer physical exam and drug screening. Must work a rotating schedule and provide transportation to and from the jobsite(s). Extensive travel is required for this position.
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Additional duties may be assigned.
- Loads/unloads, moves and places objects, equipment, and materials from the dredge, deck barges, trucks, etc. in support of dredging operations
- Performs daily crane, rigging, barge and associated equipment inspections, completion of inspection logs and basic maintenance on crane: changing oil and filters, fueling, lubricating gears and bearings, etc.
- Assists with work on pontoon lines, submerged lines, attending plant, anchors and spud systems
- Maintains inventory of rigging supplies and repairs and splices cables and towing ropes
- Secures mooring lines to dredge, scows, dredge tender or attending plant
- Participates in writing JSAs prior to performing work activity and executes work accordingly
- Ensures compliance with Manson’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
- Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Minimum 3 years’ experience with barge mounted lattice boom crawler cranes. Must have ability to give and receive, understand, respond and follow verbal and written communications and instructions, including the ability to read/write machinery requirements, document compliance records and receive and respond to hand/radio signals from deck crew. Must be able to communicate, take direction well, and work cooperatively with other colleagues.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid picture identification required. Valid Crane Operator certification (such as NCCCO) with specialization required in Lattice Boom cranes (LBC) required.

The employee must be able to meet the physical requirements of this position, including:
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on marine vessels in water
- Able to safely execute duties in and around heavy equipment/large machinery in marine dredging and marine construction job sites
- Able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.)
