The Control Engineer 3 is responsible for performing designing, testing, startup, and commissioning of SCADA control systems consisting of low and medium voltage electrical distribution equipment, including breakers, transformers, switches, switchgear, and relays. An understanding of sophisticated electrical distribution systems of complex electrical test equipment is required. You will contribute to a safe working environment for co-workers and customers and help ensure the overall success of projects. This position is based in the Fort Meade, Maryland area.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years’ experience leading technical execution on power controls related projects working for an electrical utility, industrial plant, consulting engineering, or system integrator with the following experience:
  • Designing and installing SCADA control systems with protection relays, power metering, breaker monitoring and control.
  • Troubleshooting communication and programming logic in a fast-paced commissioning environment.
  • Commissioning and/or configuring relays and logic processors for one or more of the following manufacturers: Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), ABB, GE, and/or Siemens.
  • General Networking design and troubleshooting. Cisco programming familiarity a plus but not required.
  • Deep knowledge of Modbus. Deep knowledge of DNP3.0 and IEC-61850 a plus but not required.
  • Utilize CAD/CAE software, AutoCAD and/or EPLAN for design of SCADA control systems.
  • Perform QA/QC and technical reviews of SCADA control system designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Originates design documents for small projects and in support of large programs.
  • Evaluation and pricing of change orders.
  • Perform hardware / software upgrades and replacements on existing systems
  • Participates in technical meeting with customer and engineering functional staff.
  • Assigns engineers and technicians to field assignments.
  • Executes Electrical Commissioning inspection / testing activities on-site (Fort Meade, Maryland).
  • Originates electrical commissioning, inspection and testing deliverables and documents, including schedule.
  • Uses available commissioning tools for efficient execution of project deliverables.
  • Works with electronic relays and other system components (SCADA, PLC) via manufacturer specific computer software.
  • Understands electrical power system commissioning, inspection and testing requirements of low and medium voltage power systems.
  • Occasionally assists proposal engineers in preparation of Bids and Proposals cost estimates and supporting documentation
  • Understands commissioning terminology.
  • Understands at a basic level industry codes and standards.
  • Understand basic cost and schedule considerations.
  • Familiar with the application of electrical equipment.
  • Credible automation knowledge.

Requirements / Education:

  • 5-10 years of experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam
  • AutoCAD and/or EPLAN
  • Strong Oral, Written and Presentation Skills.
  • Demonstrated background working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives.
  • CCNA, CCNP, or Network+ certification is a plus but not required.
