Consumer Benefits Specialist I Job at Metrocare Services

The Consumer Benefits Specialist I is a specialized position that provides assistance to Center consumers and stakeholders in applying for and accessing federal and state benefits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other specific duties may be assigned.)
- Assist consumers in applying for or obtaining enrollment into the following programs
- Medicaid
- Medicare
- SSI/SSDI
- NorthSTAR
- CHIP
- Other federal, state, and supplemental programs.
- Completes written and electronic documentation.
- Maintains excellent documentation in Center electronic medical records.
- Verifies data in support of eligibility determination.
- Maintains constant contact, and follows up with consumer and program until the enrollment process is complete.
- Coordinates with clinical staff to obtain information to apply for benefits.
- Advocacy for appealing denied benefits, including court appeals.
- Provides technical assistance to consumers around accessing benefits.
- Provides representation for consumers in court hearings.
- Meets designated benchmarks and/or quality measures.
- Demonstrates a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Attends training's on rules, regulations, work procedures, forms, and requirements
- Keeps Manager informed of changes, problems, and barriers as they arise.
- Attends administrative meetings and training's as directed.
- Other duties as assigned

- Ability to work with minimal supervision
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in human services or business management preferred. Will consider the equivalent experience in place of a degree.
- Minimum 1 year experience in customer service, medical, and/or financial setting
- Experience with consumer benefits enrollment
- Ability to speak Spanish is preferred
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform moderate mathematical calculations to interpret consumer income and expenses
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to function in a fluid environment and respond appropriately to changing priorities
- Translate broad goals into achievable steps.
- Demonstrate high ethical standards in all professional relationships internally and externally
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Intermediate-level MS Word and Excel
- Email and Windows-based programs
- Ability to utilize the Internet for resource
