The Construction Project Estimator prepares timely and accurate bid estimates for medium to large sized indoor and outdoor wireless infrastructure projects within the Boingo Carrier Services BU. Individual must have experience working with converged wireless networks, including distributed antenna systems, WLAN, Private LTE / 5G, small cells and macro towers. The Estimator will work closely with our design teams to gather, evaluate, and then prepare detailed cost information to our sales teams prior to the construction process. They may visit construction sites to gather information and analyze proposals, specifications, blueprints, and construction documents to understand the project. Post contract award, the Estimator works closely with A&E firms and project managers to coordinate and oversee the vendors and/or subcontractors in the bid process. They determine the time, labor, materials, and product costs for the project and communicate the requirements to the client.
The Estimator will be required to help plan and cost all projects with expectations for the efficient use equipment, materials and subcontractors within contract requirements and build schedule. The Estimator will fully understand the major business components and implications specific to estimating and cost control for while ensuring compliance with Boingo's national standards.
Responsibilities
This role will be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of RFP responses, costing exercises, bid documentation, as well as traveling to job locations to confirm project site conditions and host bid walks. The Construction Estimator will lead bid strategy for the operations team, bid leveling discussions, management presentations, notification of awarded contracts, and will assists field personnel in developing and/or recommending change orders to scope as needed. This role also provides insight in the continuous improvement of methodology, tools and approaches to control costs and reduce risk.
Additional requirements:
- Work closely with sales and marketing on RFP responses.
- Work closely with product development to productize construction, operations and maintenance of wireless infrastructure.
- Review blueprints, plans, and specifications to understand the project as a whole and then prepare detailed estimates.
- Research and acquire sub-contractors through competitive bidding process and assist with negotiate terms.
- Assist with onboarding additional MWDBE subcontractors.
- Estimate time, labor, construction materials, and product costs to determine the overall cost for construction/excavation projects.
- Prepare written proposals, cost estimates, budgets, and updates for internal customers.
- Provide all subcontractors with drawings and specifications prior to the bid process.
- Attend the pre-bid meetings if needed.
Required Skills
- At least five years' experience in estimating mid to large scale projects and advanced knowledge of construction and wireless industry practices.
- Experience with computerized bidding software, CAD tools, iBwave and proficiency in MS Office applications
- Complex problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously using good time management skills
- Critical thinking skills with ability to problem solve and make effective decisions
