This position provides a variety of technical and administrative assistance to support all aspects of the programs and activities of the Renville County SWCD. Assist with local implantation and oversight of the Minnesota Buffer Law, County Ag Inspector duties, Wetland Conservation Act (WCA), and Outreach and education efforts for the SWCD.

Wage offered will depend on training and experience.

Essential Duties

  • Prepares records and reports covering work accomplished.
  • Performs technical work, according to the NRCS Technical Guide and within ecological Job Approval Authority, without detailed instructions, after adequate training.
  • Supervise field contractors, interns, and volunteers when given project responsibility by the Resource Conservationist or District Administrator
  • Grant tracking, reporting, and time management. Assist with grant reporting, such as elink and MDA funds.
  • Develops conservation plans and project agreements and provide the necessary guidance and follow-up to ensure plan implementation and all the required reporting.
  • Promotes the conservation philosophy of the District, as outlined in the Strategic Plan.
  • Oversee and perform the duties associated with the Renville County Rain Garden ordinances.
  • Grant tracking, reporting, and time management.
  • Administer the day-to-day operations of county mining reclamations and WCA.
  • Serve as responsible representative for the SWCD in overseeing all efforts related to the Buffer law implementation.
  • Oversee SWCD Drill rental program, fleet, and equipment maintenance.
  • Oversee and enforce the County Ag Inspector duties, with oversight by MN Dept of Ag.
  • Expected to work cooperatively as a team player with conservation partners, especially the BWSR staff, Technical Service Area Staff, USDA NRCS & FSA staff, Renville County staff, watershed project staff, and others.
  • Specific duties of this position are expected to change as the needs of the area change.
  • Promote the SWCD through outreach efforts, including but not limited to using social media platforms, news media, and public events.
  • Work with landowners on installing and maintaining Best Management Practices (BMP) under the direction of the Resource Conservationist and District Administrator.
  • Work with landowners and farmers to evaluate and improve soil health with BMPs.
  • Obtain and maintain a UAS Drone pilot certificate (small, unmanned aircraft systems).

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree with a major emphasis in biological or environmental science, soil science, geology, or equivalent field preferred;
OR a two year college degree in biological or environmental science or equivalent field plus applicable experience in related field
OR equivalent work experience in related field/agency.

Must be a USDA Certified Conservation Planner with relevant Job Approval Authority (JAA) or achieve within two years of hire date.

Selection Process

Candidates meeting the minimum requirements will be invited to a first round interview, held via Zoom, on Friday, April 14 in the afternoon.

Second round interviews, for those selected, will be held on Friday, April 21 in the afternoon. These will be in-person at the SWCD Office in Olivia.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.89 - $31.78 per hour
