Position Title: Computer Services Technician
Computer Service Technicians provide remote and in-person assistance to our internal customers across a variety of locations in Grass Valley, Nevada City and Truckee. Candidates for this position will work hands-on with a variety of technologies that includes desktop PCs, laptops, mobile devices, printers and VoIP phones. Work may also include coordinating small projects, planning moves and collaborating with more senior Information Systems staff.
Functions of Agency/Department:The Nevada County IS staff are responsible for the overall computing solutions for the County of Nevada. The preparation of computers in a network, which enables the computers to be able to work together and share information, is a primary function. Technicians and Analysts make hardware and software configurations for businesses by analyzing their needs to help them achieve their network system goals.
Duties/Responsibilities:The Computer Services Technician I is the entry level position in the series and is suited to those just starting in the field. Candidates should be familiar with desktop technologies and have strong communication, documentation and troubleshooting skills and be ready to learn.
The Computer Services Technician II is a journeyman level position, expected to be adaptable and have strong problem-solving skills and a good foundation in a variety of desktop technologies.
An ideal candidate has excellent Customer Service skills and is a good communicator, both verbally and in writing. This person must be able to communicate technical concepts in non-technical ways and demonstrates patience, compassion and is self-motivated.

The person selected for the position would be asked to perform a range of duties from very basic activities to those requiring higher skill levels and professional expertise:
- Staffs the Service Desk assisting customers with routine questions and requests for service on computer devices, software and hardware and providing solutions and instructions via telephone or e-mail, or remote control
- Responds in person to service calls on endpoint devices, systems and networks, performing diagnostics on computers and peripherals and coaching customers on computer operations and usage
- Installs and repairs basic telephone and computer equipment
- Resolves technical hardware and software problems with product vendor technical support and implements fixes as necessary
- Cross-trains and Collaborates with other IS Staff members in the resolution of technical problems
Candidates selected for the position would be asked to perform a range of duties from very basic activities to those requiring higher skill levels to enhance a department’s operations.
