The Position:

  • Directs programs, policies, and practices to monitor and ensure compliance with the laws, regulations and rules of federal, state, and self-regulatory organizations. Develops and implements strategies that support the organization’s Compliance programs.
  • Tracks laws and regulations that might affect the organization’s policies, products or services. Identifies and implements necessary changes.
  • Directs investigations of non-compliance and / or potential violations of corporate policy, applicable laws and / or regulations. Directs the appropriate response and / or actions.
  • Recommends proactive measures that will reduce the risk of violations and / or non-compliance.
  • Responsible for documenting and communicating programs, policies and procedures. Ensures appropriate training programs are available.
  • Provides advice / counsel to more senior management on Compliance matters.
  • Directs compliance filings and filing decisions made by members of the team for policy form and other filings in accordance with company and state requirements.
  • Ensures department’s record keeping systems are updated and maintained appropriately.
  • Responsible for the relationship between the organization and regulatory agencies.
  • Requests or generates and analyzes management reports to track and assess unit performance, process flow, customer satisfaction and other business metrics. Reviews findings with more senior management and determines appropriate actions.
  • Develops and oversees internal controls to ensure accuracy, timeliness and quality of work. Identifies and implements methods to improve processes and procedures.
  • Ensures quality of work and services provided.

    • Monitors management reports on service levels, activity, customer experience and other work products.
    • Ensures that effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers are developed and maintained.
    • Identifies and implements methods to improve processes, procedures, customer service and satisfaction.
  • Plans both short-term and long-term objectives and ensures alignment with business goals. Ensures the team meets policies / practices, budget and performance targets.
  • Provides tactical leadership and strategic direction to the department.
  • Has accountability for performance, development and coaching of staff (i.e. hiring, firing, performance management, salary increases, etc.). Ensures the department has a sufficient number of trained staff to provide necessary levels of service and achieve department performance results.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB PROFILE

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

Field of Study: Business, Liberal Arts, or related discipline

Experience: 10 or more years of insurance / securities-related experience, including at least 2 to 4 years of management experience. Continuing progress toward and/or the completion of an Associate Insurance Regulatory Compliance (AIRC) designation.

Scope of Job: Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. May have lower leadership levels as direct reports. Formulates policies, practices, and strategies to be implemented throughout the organization. Has direct accountability for the performance results of the unit.
