Denver Animal Protection (DAP) protects the safety and welfare of Denver’s animals and residents by fostering the human animal bond. DAP emphasizes public and animal safety and health, encourages responsible pet ownership through education and enforcing compliance with animal-related municipal code requirements, and cares for animals at the Denver Animal Shelter (DAS). DAP is a 24/7 operation, and this position will be expected to work weekends, nights, holidays, and possibly irregular hours if needed.
The Denver Animal Protection team has an opening for a Compliance and Administration Assistant. This position will support Denver Animal Protection by providing specialized and technical office support, which includes license and restricted breed compliance and general administrative assistance to all sections of DAP. Furthermore, this position will be responsible for building and maintaining collaborative partnerships with organizations, as well as serving as the administrative liaison for the Animal Shelter and managing a variety of administrative tasks, including record retention, managing of office supplies, and other duties.
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manage compliance notifications to pet owners
  • Maintain timely and accurate records and files according to established procedures
  • Track and report compliance data
  • Serve as the agency compliance coordinator; develop educational and marketing materials, train and assign volunteers to hold educational booths at local events
  • Assist Customer Care manager with compliance program management, development, and oversight
  • Ensure compliance by working directly with pet licensing contractor regarding billing and all other aspects of contract and reporting functions
  • Facilitate and maintain rabies, spay and neuter and restricted breed permit compliance schedule with veterinarian offices and other animal welfare agencies
  • Manage supporting volunteer positions
  • Manage a variety of administration tasks, such as record retention, cell phones, mail, copiers, office supplies, driving records, agency administration liaison for the department, etc.
  • Along with all department staff, this position will actively participate on an emergency preparedness and response team to support DDPHE’s responsibilities outlined in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan. This may require being ‘on-call’ from time to time to help respond to emergencies. Additional training commensurate with assigned duties will be provided.

About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Associates Degree or higher
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the telephone, and through written and email correspondence
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently and within a team structure
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of other databases, such as Chameleon and Salesforce
  • Comfortable working in an animal shelter environment under occasionally tense and/or stressful conditions
  • Excellent customer service skills including verbal and written communication
  • Attention to detail and a high level of time management skills
  • Must be able to work in an environment with daily animal exposure
  • Ability to work off-hour shifts when required

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of experience performing specialized and/or technical office support work of the type and at the level of Administrative Support Assistant IV.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of education may be substituted for each required year experience.
  • License/Certifications: None.
