Position SummaryResponsible for the delivery of educational training for the growth and development of long term care staff members on clinical and non-clinical training topics. Collaborates with the long term care leadership team to enhance the development of nursing staff. Responsible for the Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program specific to MCS Long Term Care. Responsible for the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program. Implements, monitors and evaluates the Infection Prevention evidenced-based standards and practices for LTC. Provides support for onsite Employee Health services to assess and make referrals for work-related and non-work-related illness and injury per Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of Long Term Care experience required.

Two years of adult learner educational opportunities experience in a clinical setting preferred.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

Specialized training in infection prevention required following hire or placement.

Kentucky RN license (OR) RN license in a State recognized by the Kentucky Nurse Licensure Compact Act required effective June 1, 2007.

Certification in Infection Prevention Control required within 6 months of hire or placement.

Kentucky Medicaid Nurse Aid Trainer Certification required within 6 months of hire or placement.

Job Specific Performance Standards
- Responsible for conducting training programs on a variety of clinical and non-clinical training topics in accordance with the standards of the Kentucky Board of Nursing, American Heart Association, LTC Survey Regulations, The Joint Commission, and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. Adjusts delivery of course content to meet needs of audience. Training programs include but are not limited to the CNA Trainee Program, CMS Hand in Hand Training, Point Click Care (EMR), Kentucky Medicaid Nurse Aid Training, and Eden Alternative Training Concepts.
- Plans, coordinates, and develops items such as behavioral objectives, class purpose descriptions, and syllabi. Ensures that items meet requirements for contact hour or CEU development.
- Supports the collaboration with community educational institutions such as high schools, colleges and technical schools to facilitate the educational needs requirements and experiential opportunities for students to complete their course work, degrees and/or certifications.
- Serves as a training resource to staff and administrative personnel for continuing education, orientation, in-service, and competency assessment needs. Assists with assessing organizational learning needs using a variety of methods such as department staff/manager interviews, participation in committees and special projects.
- Continuously advances self-directed development, with enhancement of knowledge and skills through college courses, professional journals, attendance of conferences, achieving maintaining certifications and/ or other means as determined by the Long Term Care Department.
- Creates and adapts training materials and program content to meet the educational needs of audience and to align education with desired competencies and business outcomes. Secures equipment, supplies and facilities for educational programs.
- Facilitates the maintenance of records and files as necessary for documentation of educational offerings for various continuing education provider groups. Assists in maintaining the resources library for long term care staff.
- Provides “on call” support on a rotation basis.
- Gathers and records infection data and evaluates findings in coordination with the Infection Prevention Team on an ongoing basis.
- Participates on the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee. Provides reports regarding the Infection Prevention and Control Program on a regular basis.
- Implements, monitors, and maintains the Antibiotic Stewardship Program that includes antibiotic use protocols and a system to monitor antibiotic use.
- Provides guidance and assistance with employee requests for via telephone calls, walk-in office visits, and “on call” consultation and follow-up services as needed for Employee Health services. Provides support to employees and refers to other systems as necessary.
- Performs case management in coordination with Workers Compensation function for work-related and non-work-related illness and injury.
