Position Summary:
The Behavior Analysis Training & Support (BATS) Program is growing and seeks an experienced, personable and energetic person, ready for the challenges and rewards of working with diverse teams of direct caregivers, family members, and community providers supporting behavior change and individuals experiencing challenging behavior. This unique consultative role allows for the connection across different providers.Duties:
BATS provides a service offered by the University of Alaska Anchorage's Center for Human Development that involves consultation, training and technical assistance to an agency currently serving an individual (3 years or older) with complex behaviors that present as a high risk of danger to the individual and/or others without additional intervention. The intervention required is beyond the scope of normal services for this population.
Through state funding, BATS is able to provide the nationally required supervision for trainees pursuing certification in the field of behavior analysis. Supervision involves group and individual meetings led by the BCBA where behavior analytic topics are discussed. Trainees are observed and submit written product samples to demonstrate their knowledge and mastery of skills on the national certification task list at BACB.com.
Through both areas of work above, training occurs with team members, agency employees, and trainees. Additional training opportunities may occur through regular professional development sessions and conferences pursued by the BATS Program.
A successful candidate will:
- Use applied behavioral science with relevant postgraduate professional experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Have appropriate state licensure in a specialty area (i.e. BCBA, LCSW, Ph.D.) and are licensed to practice Behavior Analysis in the State of Alaska.
- Be able to provide expertise in a specialized area of Applied Behavior Science which includes:
o Acting as the expert resource for this specialized area
o Providing training to other employees in specialized area
o Creating treatment plans for cases needing care related to the specialized area
- Be able to lead and train others including clinical staff, school staff, direct support professionals and family members in the applications applied behavior analysis, positive behavioral interventions and supports, person-centered planning, delivery of effective skill instruction, team management and facilitation and other strategies associated with building capacity for service delivery for people with challenging behaviors.
- Be able to explain behavior analytic concepts in ways that are understandable to those without extensive behavior analytic knowledge. Is able to build and maintain rapport with trainees in order to provide feedback on performance within the supervision setting. Is able to manage own schedule and complete required supervisory paperwork on time.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current research in the science and application of treatment relevant to trauma informed care, applied behavior analysis and others as applicable.
Preferred:
- Have experience in the use of Microsoft Excel and other databases for use with single subject data collection and presentation preferred.
- Past involvement in behavioral science research preferred.
- This is the advanced level position which can train others in proficiencies in functional behavioral assessments, data collection, building and implementing behavior intervention plans in a variety of community settings with the ability to assess and treat more complex cases and provides advanced level of consultations.
- Have 4 years’ experience working with people with developmental disabilities (including FASD), mental health issues, and/or acquired/traumatic brain injuries with challenging behaviors in a community setting.
- Have 2 years’ experience developing and implementing behavioral intervention plans.
- Have 2 years’ experience providing training or technical assistance to individuals, families, and providers individually as well as in group settings on complex behavior interventions.
- A minimum of 4 years working in the field of disability, education and/or behavioral health with experience with at least 2 years working in a professional role serving children, youth and/or adults experiencing any of the following:
o Serious Mental Illness
o Intellectual/Developmental Disability
o Alzheimer’s Disease and related Dementia
o Traumatic Brain Injury
o Chronic Substance Use Disorder w/one of the above
- 2 years of relevant experience training others in group and individual settings in the application of positive behavioral support, applied behavior analysis in home and community-based settings and community-based settings.
Preferred :
- 5 years working in a professional role serving youth and/or adults experiencing any of the following:
o Serious Mental Illness
o Intellectual/Developmental Disability
o Alzheimer’s Disease and related Dementia
o Traumatic Brain Injury
o Chronic Substance Use Disorder w/one of the above
- 5 years of relevant experience training others in group and individual settings in the application of positive behavioral support, applied behavior analysis in home and community-based settings and community-based settings.
- Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis, Social Work, Psychology or Education from an accredited postsecondary institution and 4 years of relevant experience, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience; OR Ph.D. in relevant field from an accredited institution with clinical internship.
- Licensed - Holds the national certification to practice behavior analysis by the BACB and the ability to be licensed in Alaska by date of hire.
- Meets the requirements of the BACB to supervise trainees pursuing their certification.
- This position requires an ability to facilitate, motivate and respectfully lead complex multi-disciplinary teams while building individual team member’s capacity to use applied behavioral interventions to change behavior.
This is a full-time or part-time, 12-month, exempt term-funded staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.
This is an in-person position located on the Anchorage campus and Midtown location; remote work is not available for this position.
