Job Title: Community Volunteer Specialist
Reports to: Volunteer Services Supervisor
Hours worked per week not to exceed: 37.5
Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes
FLSA Status: Full time, Non-Exempt


Purpose of Position:

Oversee and develop volunteer placement opportunities for adults aged 55+ in Kalamazoo and Calhoun Counties in accordance with federal and state guidelines. For State/Federal AmeriCorps program identification purposes this position will be referred to as “RSVP Program Director” in all external communication. This position will work directly with volunteers and their supervisors at numerous locations in Kalamazoo and Calhoun County.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate records for grant writer and supervisor to support their timely submission of all program grant applications, application amendments, progress reports, and funder documents as needed.
  • Promote the agency in the community so that dignity and independence of older adults are maintained.
  • Develop, maintain, and nurture relationships with RSVP volunteers, including but not limited to recognition and regular communication to support them and their service.
  • Regularly communicate with RSVP volunteer stations, potential volunteer stations and community organizations, especially focused within Calhoun County.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and retention strategy to be implemented in cooperation with Agency Volunteer Services, especially focused on Calhoun County.
  • Maintain membership in the Michigan Association of RSVP Directors (MARSVPD). Attend conferences, trainings, and meetings required by agency or funding personnel.
  • Work cooperatively with the Volunteer Services Department to ensure agency-wide consistent and efficient volunteer management, especially in Calhoun County.
  • Cross train other positions in the Volunteer Services department to backfill during vacations or illness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Human Services or related field.
  • Experience with volunteer management, scheduling, recruitment and/or retention.
  • Experience with Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with Volgistics, CareVantage and/or other database system preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Non - Exempt position with starting wage of $20.50 - 23.43, which will be adjusted for experience.
