Community and Family Outreach Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Family Service Manager

JOB FOCUS:

The Parent Programs Coordinator interacts with the community and families to support Head Start-Community alliances, facilitates parent engagement in the program and their child’s education, and supports the CDCSA Mission Statement and School Readiness Goals.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide planned experiences supporting and enhancing the parental role as participants in program activities as paid employees, volunteers, and observers.
  • Provide a program that supports the parent as the child's principal educational and development influence.
  • Provide planned experiences supporting and enhancing the parental role as contributors to the Head Start/ECEAP program and their communities.
  • Encourage parent participation in decision making, program planning, and operation of the Head Start/ECEAP program.
  • Enhance thedevelopment of skills, self-confidence, and asense of independence by fostering an environment in which children can fully develop.
  • Seek and implement cooperative parent projects and educational opportunities with community agencies.
  • Help Translate for parent nights.
  • Supervise Parent Programs support staff.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all children at all times.
  • Perform all duties as indicated in the CSA work plan.
  • Maintain compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards, ECEAP Performance Standards, and WAC’s.
  • Maintain strict child, family, and staff confidentiality.
  • Maintain a professional attitude toward management, staff, parents, children, community partners, and the education profession.
  • Attend pre-service, staff meetings, andin-house trainings, and participates in a Professional Development Plan.
  • Participate in the yearly self-assessment.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by theProgram Manager or Executive Director.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a community networking system supportive of Parent Programs goals.
  • Establish supportive relationships with families that promote and reinforce parent engagement in their child’s education.
  • Model appropriate behavior/attitudes when working with children, families, and staff.
  • Assist parents in implementing training programs for parent groups, topics to include required training and parent generated requests.
  • Facilitate Center Committee and Policy Council elections, appointments, and activities.
  • Assist in Policy Council Training.
  • Assist other components in self improvement, education, and training programs.
  • Coordinate evening and weekend events for families.
  • Promote a system of formal and informal support for parent volunteers and community partners: in-person "Check-ins" and written appreciation of participation.
  • Locate and makes known in-service trainings and community activities to staff and parents.
  • Assist the teaching staff in parent and staff interactions.
  • Complete reports as requested by Managers or Directors.
  • Participate in meetings or training as requested by supervisor.
  • Document activities carried out in response to specific Program Standards.
  • Meet regularly with Family Service Component Team, Early Head Start Team, and Satellite Site Teams to develop Parent Programs plans and determine thelevel of support needed from Parent Programs Staff.
  • Meet regularly with thesupervisor to discuss Parent Programs and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Write and speak fluently in English and Spanish.
  • Associate's Degree required, Bachelors, preferred.
  • Experience working with low-income families.
  • Ability to communicate positively with children, families, and staff from varying cultural, education, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including internet and email.
  • Be willing to obtain a class C CDL endorsement upon request according to program needs.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings.
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License, automobile liability insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Be able to provide a copy of their safe driving record upon request.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to obtain a Food Handlers Permit within 90 days of hire.
  • Fulfillment of all specified Health and Safety requirements.
  • Ability to obtain DEL Background Check and renew as required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Freedom from conviction of child abuse and neglect.
  • Preference isgiven to former or current Head Start/Early Head Start//ECEAP parents.

As parents leave the program they will have the knowledge and understanding that they are their child’s first and most important teacher and advocate, and theknowledge and skills to make a difference in the life and learning of their child.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement:

The CDCSA is a Licensed Childcare Center. According to the Washington state vaccine mandate, all licensed childcare staff members are required to be vaccinated by October 18th, 2021. Pay: $21.11 - $22.36 per hour
