Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, the Communications Manager helps to tell the organization’s story through informative and engaging marketing collateral and external communications including digital, print, and news media. They help to engage the community, maintain and grow our network of supporters, and raise awareness about Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ impact and the benefits of food rescue. Bilingual English-Spanish language skills are required. This role works to connect the dots between issues like wasted food, food insecurity, the climate emergency, and the impact these issues have on people. Related lived experience is valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Creates content using writing, design, and photography skills to tell and engage people in Spoonfuls' story on our social media, blog, website, email, event materials, and elsewhere as needed
- Collaborates with colleagues across verticals to develop informational materials (one-pagers, decks, etc.)
- Sources stories through interviews and conversations with Spoonfuls’ staff, partners, and end-recipients
- Takes and edits together short videos for social media (i.e. Instagram Reels)
- Utilizes social review and scheduling tools (i.e. AirTable and Hootsuite) to efficiently share social content
- Informs Spoonfuls’ day-to-day content calendar and supports Senior Manager with campaign planning and execution (i.e. event promotion and holiday giving)
- Conducts research and prospecting for media, speaking, and award opportunities
- With teammates, works to ensure that Spoonfuls’ communications represent the organization’s core values; helps to elevate the voices and experiences of partners and end-recipients
- Conducts social listening and data entry for digital analytics report

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A commitment to, and familiarity with, food and/or environmental justice issues – candidates with related lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply
- At least 3 years’ relevant experience (if you haven’t worked at a Manager level before but you have applicable experience and/or transferable skills that would translate well to this role, we encourage you to apply)
- Strong English and Spanish communication skills - verbal and written
- Comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback
- Some design experience preferred (i.e. Canva, Creative Cloud)
- Good judgment; ability to problem-solve
- Comfortable in deadline-driven roles/environments
- Flexibility; able to comfortably re-prioritize as needed
- Comfortable with hybrid work environments - remote and in-person (for applicants living in Greater Boston or MetroWest, position reports into our Greater Boston office two days per week)
- Reliable personal vehicle for reporting into our Greater Boston-based office (off public transportation) and, as needed, to Spoonfuls’ and partners’ sites in other regions across Massachusetts
- Must live in or in proximity to one of our operating territories: Greater Boston, MetroWest, Worcester County, or Hampden County - established connection to one or more communities Spoonfuls serves is preferred

Full-Time, Exempt (typically Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend hours to accommodate events and media opportunities - in such case, flexible scheduling is available.)

Work Environment
Our work environment is hybrid (remote and in-person) for applicants in commuting distance to our headquarters in Greater Boston. (For other applicants, it is expected they will travel to the Greater Boston headquarters, as needed, for occasional team meetings and events.) The Manager will also occasionally be expected to work “on location” to solicit content or represent the organization in our other geographic regions across Massachusetts. While most of our work takes place during standard business hours (9 am - 5 pm), occasionally - and often with ample notice - the Manager can be expected to support meetings and events that happen during the
evening and weekend hours. In that case, flexible scheduling is available.
