SSI is seeking a Space Communications Systems Engineer in Chantilly, VA. This position provides Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) support to the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) in Chantilly, VA, offering unparalleled insight into an emerging mission area and opportunities to secure our nation’s space enterprise.
The Space Communications Systems Engineer will work closely with Government and SETA staff to plan, deliver, maintain, and enhance critical mission capabilities for the NRO enterprise. SETA staff collaborate with IC organizations and technology providers to maintain awareness of current and emerging threats and to drive solutions to mitigate these threats.
The Space Communications Systems Engineer supports the System Program Office (SPO) in a technical capacity for planning, execution, monitoring, and oversight of satellite system development and acquisitions that advance the National Reconnaissance Office’s (NRO) space resiliency posture.
The Space Communications Systems Engineer is an individual contributor and member of a team of high-performing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) that directly support the Government through lifecycle systems engineering and management processes to deliver critical space resiliency capabilities.
Job responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Overseeing the design and development of communications systems and components for space-to-ground and space-to-space communication links.
- Applying complex space and ground communications specifications, tolerances, simulations, and test procedures for communications systems and components.
- Assisting the Government in developing the concept of operations (CONOPS) and approaches to the employment of communications systems.
- Ensuring research and development (R&D) efforts are planned and conducted on sound engineering practices including management of technical risks.
- Supporting Contract Officer Technical Representatives (COTRs) and Developers by coordinating with other technical domain SMEs and program stakeholders to achieve a detailed understanding of the systems, designs, and interfaces necessary to satisfy mission requirements.
- Providing oversight of acquisitions, with a specific focus on the communications systems elements, functionality, interfaces, manufacture, build, test, and operations to ensure end-to-end system closure and satisfaction of mission needs.
- Reviewing Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables to ensure content, technical accuracy, and sufficiency of design details to meet program requirements and objectives.
- Operates as an individual contributor and member of a team of high-performing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) that work to support the Government through lifecycle systems engineering and management processes to deliver desired capabilities and meet overall program objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and nine (9) years or more experience; Master's degree and seven (7) years or more experience; Ph.D. or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain a Polygraph.
- Effective communication, coordination, and customer engagement skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team environment.
- Travel 10%, flexible work schedule options such as 9/80 or 8/80 may be available but dependent upon customer demands.
