Communications Associate

Position Summary: The Communications Associate is responsible to the church, under the direction of the Communications Pastor, to coordinate, develop, and execute content as part of the church’s communication strategy. The position requires a broad understanding of content creation but will primarily serve as the church’s social media manager. The position will also direct and execute, in collaboration with the communications team, projects that service church ministry areas.
Education/Experience:
- Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
- 3+ years experience
- Experience in social media management, branding, project management, graphic design, photography, and video production
Qualifications/Skills:
- A committed follower of Christ
- Experience and/or skill with graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite) and ability to work on a Mac platform.
- Knowledge of all aspects of social media management and branding
- Proven ability to take projects from beginning to end (concept to production to final edit)
- Organized and able to effectively manage time and multiple projects
- Possess a diplomatic approach to ministry area relationships while maintaining procedural standards
- Excellent customer service skills
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Social Media ManagementCreate engaging written and visual content for social media platforms
Direct current social media platforms with a predominant focus and expertise on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google My Business, Youtube, and knowled of emerging platforms now and in the future.
Define comprehensive social media strategies to increase visibility, engagement, acquisition, and traffic to on/offline destinations
Develop, implement, and direct a social media strategy for the senior pastor
Develop, implement, and manage social media strategies, social-driven ad campaigns, and plans to build church/brand awareness.
Edit and post Sunday morning content to social media.
Provide guidance, counsel, and mentorship to team members in social media strategy
Create a culture of conversation on social media by replying to comments and inquiries
Monitor social media progress using web analytic tools
Review the success of campaigns and develop ways to improve
- Communication Strategy
- Collaborate with the Communications Assistant to consult with ministry areas designed specifically to do one or more of the following: Clearly define the actual scope of the project by helping the client to answer tough questions. (e.g. – “What exactly do you want vs. what do you need”)
Work out broad cost estimates if necessary.
Prompt for and collect key details (point person, approver, key deadlines)
Manage expectations of deliverables based on the current climate (resources, existing messages, client responsibilities, etc.)
When appropriate, offer other team-preferred alternatives that more closely meet Communications standards as determined by team leadership.
Work with Communications Pastor and Communications Assistant to strategically break projects into manageable pieces, determine assignments to be made to the communications team and follow the project through to completion using the church’s communication project management system.
Collaborate with the Communications Pastor and Communications Assistant to identify and implement a project prioritization system
Format and send a weekly churchwide email and text messages. Assist ministry areas with regular targeted digital communication.
Ensure that clients are kept abreast of project status through regular communication. Collaborate with the Communications Pastor and team to identify messaging priorities
- Support the Communications Pastor in public relations efforts such as media list management, assisting with editorial content creation, and submitting event information to community calendars, influencers, etc. Write copy for church projects that reflects the church’s voice for use in social media, web, email, print, and video production
Update the church website as needed
- OtherAssist Communications Pastor in sermon series planning
Assist Communications Pastor in branding and marketing
Any other duties as assigned
