Our team is searching for a Natural Gas Commercial Manager to work at our Houston, TX, Energy Tower site, where we manage the natural gas supply for all North American BASF sites. In addition to the US BASF sites and outside third parties, our Natural Gas trading desk actively trades for BASF’s largest Verbund sites (primarily in the Southeast / Gulf Coast region). Our close ties to internal BASF operations, other third-party industrial players, the US natural gas market, and regulations / guidelines, especially BASF Group’s code of conduct, allows us to manage risk, realize profit, and be one of the first steps in creating chemistry for a sustainable future.
As a member of the Natural Gas Team in Houston, you will be responsible for procuring natural gas for all sites that are not actively traded, perform mid and back-office functions for the traded sites, help operationally with natural gas scheduling, become the internal operational contact for natural gas in the region, and ultimately ensure adequate and profitable natural gas supply for all BASF’s sites in the US.
As a Commercial Manager Natural Gas you create chemistry by…
- Leveraging your education in Chemistry, Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field and your experience (preferably in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, and/or Sales and Marketing), you will execute regional procurement category strategies for natural gas to non-traded BASF North America sites.
- Successfully engaging outside the organization, you will provide supplier relationship management by way of building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, which will include collaborating on innovation, monitoring performance metrics, and resolving claims and/or disputes, support purchase order creation, etc. for BASF’s non-traded sites.
- Your strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence others will be essential as you drive and manage the sourcing process, from RFP to negotiation to contract execution, to ensure the most competitive supply for BASF’s non-traded sites and manage mid and back-office tasks for natural gas for the traded sites (including daily traded deal confirmations and invoicing functions).
- Your strong analytical thinking and business acumen will be essential as you closely monitor North American natural gas markets to provide short and mid-term implications and price forecasts of natural gas prices, providing regular fundamental market updates to all relevant BUs / stakeholders.
- Your extensive communication skills are essential as you manage information regarding natural gas supply to respective site management and become the main natural gas operational contact to all sites in the US (both traded & non-traded).
- Being innovative and entrepreneurial, you will assist and/or negotiate with pipelines and marketers / suppliers, for natural gas supplies and pipelines access for sites in North America for both traded and non-traded sites.
- Being a good team player, you will provide back up to the natural gas scheduler on an operational basis for the traded sites, providing unique entry level insights into natural gas movements and trading. Any pipeline or logistics experience you may have will be a valued asset in this regard.
