The Broward County Board of County Commissioners Transportation Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Coach Service Attendant in the Bus Maintenance Section.

Coach Service Attendant wage increases are determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1267. Increases and starting hourly pay are as follows.
1st Year: $15.00
2nd Year: $15.45
3rd Year: $15.91
4th Year: $16.39
5th Year: $16.88
6th Year: $17.39
Thereafter Step: $25.26

General Description
:
This is semi-skilled work in the general maintenance and servicing of county buses.
Work involves performing routine servicing of county buses. Duties include cleaning and washing buses, checking, and replenishing fuel and fluid levels and driving buses through the service facility. Work is performed in accordance with established routines and is subject to inspection in progress and upon completion.
Necessary Requirements :
  • Ability to work shift work in a 24/7 operation as assigned (days, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Ability to report to multiple work locations as needed.
Special Certifications and Licenses :
Must obtain a Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake and Passenger Transport Endorsement within ninety (90) days of employment
Supplemental Information :
Upon selection, candidates must successfully complete pre-employment screening (criminal background check, physical/drug screen, education and employment verification, and any other Transportation Department requirements).
Preferences :
Six (6) months commercial cleaning experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Inspects buses for broken glass, burned out lights, accident damage, etc., and reports damage, defects, or malfunctioning parts to proper authority.
Takes odometer readings; checks oil, transmission, and other fluids, and refuels buses.
Sweeps, mops and washes bus interiors including floors, windows, and seats; collects and disposes of trash; washes exterior of buses.
Drives bus through automatic wash, parks bus in a designated parking area.
Assists in the maintenance of transit buildings and grounds.
Performs related work as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Work is performed primarily outdoors, in all weather conditions and will require exposure to soaps and various cleaning agents.
May be required to provide basic hand tools such as pliers and screwdrivers necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals.
