Job Summary:

Assists in creating standardized practices in regard to programming and helps with off-line programming processes. Under little supervision writes programs for CNC machines.

Essential Functions:

  • Downloads or creates models
  • Oversee programming of each job
  • Creates tool paths for CNC machines
  • Sets up machines
  • Debugs machine programs
  • Oversees method of operation of machine
  • Designs tooling and Fixtures
  • Completes time studies for quotations
  • Oversees activities of CNC Programmers
  • Standardizes all programming activities
  • Oversees the creation of PCDMIS Programs for the inspection of completed jobs
  • Oversees storage and use of all CNC programs

Marginal Functions:

  • Creates storage and identification of fixtures
  • Maintain proper measurements/time on projects
  • Teach and train others
  • Eliminate waste from each operation

Essential Mental Functions:

  • Interacts with various departments including engineers, sub contractors, and machinists.
  • Resolves problems, handles conflict, and makes effective decisions under pressure.

Essential Physical Functions:

Sitting at computer terminal for extended periods of time. Occasional standing.

Safety Requirements:

  • Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others
  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employer's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.

Availability:

  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.
  • Must be available and willing to work overtime as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Travel:

Must be available and willing to travel as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Working Conditions:

Typical Machine Shop environment

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct reports, but will oversee supervisory functions when needed or in the absence of.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good knowledge of shop tools and machines
  • Knowledge of CNC machining practices and procedures
  • Excellent software knowledge, especially Cad Cam
  • Skilled in using Master Cam
  • Knowledge of
  • Ability to read, interpret and analyze blue prints
  • Must be able to troubleshoot drawings.
  • Must have advanced trigonometry skills to solve most shop problems
  • Must be able to hold +-.001 (machine permitting.)
  • Must be able to hold +- .005 true position.
  • Must be able to hold .001 perpendicularly (machine permitting.)
  • Must be able to hold +- 10 min. angularity tolerance.
  • Must be able to understand implicit and explicit instructions and react favorable in all work situations.
  • Ability to teach and train others
  • Knowledge of 5S strongly desired

Education:

One year of technical schooling in advanced machine shop and three years hands-on experience, or Six years working as machinist.

High School / GED.
