SUMMARY

This position requires experience with machine set-up and operating. Ideal candidate will have experience with G-code and M-code.

Experience with multiple CNC machining centers preferred; horizontal and vertical mills; lathes.

Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Performs all calculations to machine part.

Sets up and adjusts machines for operations by setting controls, speed and feed, coolant flow, depth, angles of cut, or enters command to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media. May set up and adjust machines for operations by other machinists.

Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and/or tooling problems.

Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.

Verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications by checking critical dimensions and measurements. Is responsible for product quality.

Measures, marks and scribes workpiece to lay out for machining.

Uses a wide variety of precision measuring instruments to perform critical measurements and inspection.

May perform minor machine maintenance such as adding coolant, grease, etc.

Makes special jigs and fixtures as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Journeyman Certification beneficial and/or two-year certificate from college or technical school with specific trade knowledge of CNC machine tool operation, equivalent to Journeyman certification (four plus years related experience preferred.)

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

During the performance of these job duties, the employee will be required to utilize all types of machines and machine centers in the Machine Shop area. Employee will also be required to use hand and power tools including electrical and pneumatic. Will also use verniers, calipers, micrometers, rulers, and gauges. Operation of overhead crane is required in the Machine Shop.
