CNC HOBBER - Saint Augustine Job at Riley Gear Corporation
Precision machine shop in Saint Augustine, with a clean, climate-controlled environment needs skilled machinists to help support our growth in sales. The machinist must possess basic machinist tools. Hands-on metal machining experience is essential for this job.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Set up, adjust, operate, and troubleshoot numeric or computer numeric controlled CNC gear hobbing machines, shapers, gear grinders and broaches to machine a variety of close tolerance gears, splines, and pinions on metal blanks according to specifications, and machining instructions to meet production and quality requirements. Proof and edit program tapes. Manually program machining instructions into computer console.
Knowledge of gear hobbing procedures, including proof and edits of programs, quality standards, and measuring equipment. Operate machines when necessary.
Essential Functions:
- Read machining instructions, blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and gear specification sheets to define machine settings, fixtures, and required hobs used for dimensions and tolerances or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Select or build fixtures, holders, tooling, hobs, and attachments.
- Confer with engineers, programmers, production employees, and management to resolve machining issues, while maintaining continuous improvement, improved tool life, reduction of tooling costs, machine downtime, improved set up time, and implementation of quality improvements.
- Work with Engineering on new product launches for fixturing, tooling, and processes.
- Operate assigned machinery to fabricate parts to the required specifications by:
- Reading work orders and specification sheets before starting the machine.
- Properly powering up and down the machine.
- Loading and unloading parts.
- Ensuring proper tooling for each machine.
- Selecting, aligning, and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, and attachments, accessories, and materials on CNC machines.
- Setting up and operating machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data in accordance with setup time parameters.
- Calculating and setting controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed coolant flow and depth and angle of cut or enter commands to retrieve input or edit computerized control media.
- Comply with all work instructions, following and maintaining ISO/QS Standards and Riley Gear & Machining procedures, and quality certification requirements.
- Ensure the operational effectiveness of all assigned equipment by:
- Conducting all assigned and necessary preventative maintenance procedures.
- Starting and observing machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Working with maintenance as needed on machines and equipment and testing operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
- Conferring with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.
- Verifying conformance of finished work piece specifications.
- Responsible for supporting the Riley Gear Business Process by:
- Maintaining and continuously improving productivity of assigned machines.
- Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining. If applicable.
- Continuously looking at tool life and new tooling to cut costs on tools.
- Reducing downtime of machines setups
- Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the company by:
- Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution.
- Assisting/Training operators in gear/hob/shaper department.
- Use Various Roll/pin measurement, and visual checks for part inspection
- Expedite parts to the following operation
- Maintain clean and organized department and work area
- Communicate with coworkers and supervisor as needed
- Determine when hob cutter needs replacement or re-sharpening
- Take parts to inspection when necessary
- Use inspection methods to determine size changes
- Analyze blueprints & travelers
- Complete all necessary paperwork as required in a timely & accurate manner
- Machine maintenance (oil levels)
- Machine maintenance logs
- Basic gear inspection equipment knowledge and skills
- Basic materials knowledge
- Basic math & geometry skills
- Reporting to Supervisor when assignments cannot be completed.
- Providing input and assistance with the implementation of quality improvements.
- Resolving problems.
- Passing along vital information in the logbook for subsequent shifts.
- Performing other job-related duties as required.
